À propos de cet audio
How far would you go to protect your darkest secrets?
When teenager Sadie Winter jumps from the roof of her school, her death is ruled as suicide - a final devastating act from a troubled girl. But then the broken body of a young boy is discovered at the same school and it’s clear to Detective Kim Stone that these deaths are not tragic accidents.
As Kim and her team begin to unravel a dark web of secrets, one of the teachers could hold the key to the truth. Yet just as she is about to break her silence, she is found dead.
With more children’s lives at risk, Kim has to consider the unthinkable - whether a fellow pupil could be responsible for the murders. Investigating the psychology of children that kill brings the detective into contact with her former adversary, Dr. Alex Thorne - the sociopath who has made it her life’s work to destroy Kim.
Desperate to catch the killer, Kim finds a link between the recent murders and an initiation prank that happened at the school decades earlier. But saving these innocent lives comes at a cost - and one of Kim’s own might pay the ultimate price.
The utterly addictive new crime thriller from the number-one best-selling author - you will be gripped until the final shocking twist.

good
So many mixed feelings on this one. I was not looking forward to my second listen, because I remembered all the parts that bugged me the first time around. Kim was even more sanctimonious than usual, and the whole "losing weight will automatically solve all of your emotional and social problems" trope bothers me so, so much. So much. (Marsons has a real bee in her bonnet about that, and it annoys me. I feel like I'm being sermonized, and the worst part is, it isn't even true. Aargh. But ok, that's just a pet peeve of mine and I won't linger on it.)
So, we have the death of a major character, and I applaud the author for it, because (after binging the preceding books one a day for the last week) I can see how perfectly she set it up. They get a nice little redemption arc (but only a little one, because frankly, they had a long way to go), and the author wrote this storyline in such a way as to ramp up the tragic factor so that it really has emotional resonance (even if they were not my favorite character, and, if I'm honest, I think killing them off now was a perfect choice, because there wasn't anywhere else for them to go. They got to go out on a high note.)
The main plot, with secret societies in an upper class boarding school, was so incredibly frustrating, but the solution was deeply satisfying. I tried looking for an emoji to express my feelings towards the upper classes, but apparently the "bras d'honneur" isn't available... I felt kind of vindicated when the wealthy criminals were caught.
But yeah. Despite problematic and frustrating elements, this was a beautifully crafted story.
