À propos de cet audio
A New York Times best-selling author and documentary filmmaker presents the definitive biography of Edgar Cayce, the father of the New Age and harbinger of alternative medicine - the mesmerizing story of a simple man with a complex gift.
Edgar Cayce Jr., born in 1877 in rural Kentucky and educated only through the eighth grade, was a man with special powers. Known as the "sleeping prophet", Cayce was an endless source of information. Awake, he had no knowledge of any of the subjects he discussed, but in a trance he prescribed medical treatments, predicted future world events, interpreted past lives (including the life of Jesus Christ), designed innovative technologies, wrote screenplays, spoke in foreign languages, and brought spiritual messages from the "other side." Although he never examined patients and often gave trance readings for people hundreds of miles away, his medical diagnoses were deemed to be correct nearly 90 percent of the time, and his predictions were often uncannily accurate.
The first researcher to have unlimited access to thousands of Cayce's documents, Sidney Kirkpatrick has written a fascinating, definitive biography of a humble man whose psychic work prefigured the New Age movement and the alternative-health movement and brought him a huge following.

Painstakingly Compiled
Besides Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce is undoubtedly the best-known psychic in history. Sidney D. Kirkpatrick follows a largely chronological format to tell the man's story - from his birth & upbringing.. through his often contentious business ventures and surprisingly reluctant (at first) displays.. to his unremarkable death from a stroke.
Kirkpatrick uses ubiquitous eyewitness testimony, reams of public documents, and Cayce's voluminous journals & letters to inform the narrative
(Note: that strength is also the source of the biggest drawback to the book: it's TOO complete. Much of the material describes relatively peripheral life events - thus some of it feels inconsequential.. even trivial)
That said, the writing is creditable, the descriptions are vivid, and the balance between punctiliously documentary and artistically dramatized (but accurate) is exemplary. This Biography is too long (an aggressive Editor could easily cut this 24 hour book in half) but scores 9/10.
Unfortunately, the audiobook is let down somewhat by weak narration. Stephen Graybill reads with professional diction, timbre, and tone - but much too slowly and with an annoying lilting cadence. Setting playback speed at 1.20X corrects for some deficiencies a little, but Blackstone Publishing miscast this project.
This iteration of the book rates 7.5 stars out of 10. A text version (paper or eBook) would be a better choice if you're interested in every conceivable life event in Cayce's experience (not just predictions from "The Source").. and are given the option
..but this audiobook is worth a listen. Can recommend.

It was interesting
If you really want to know more about the man Edgar Cayce this is the book for you. It has a lot of very useful and interesting information but it does not have all the information. If you want all the information you will need to read other books on him. But even then...I mean if you want even more info. you would have to meet the man himself but he is not here alive in body form.
