À propos de cet audio

Like most normal people, Ben hadn't the faintest idea there was an Institute of Magic.

Two years after his parents' sudden disappearance, Ben Greenwood stumbles upon a cryptic letter that could shed some light on their whereabouts. But before he can track them down, he'll need to find the mysterious organization that sent the letter: The Royal Institute of Magic.

To succeed, Ben will have to navigate a land filled with fantastic creatures and spellshooters, where magic can be bought and sold, to unravel an ancient family secret that could hold the key to defeating an evil the institute has been fighting for the last 500 years.

Good

The dark elf king is named Sucktard. If that’s not reason enough for you to listen I really don’t know what will convince you. Like the HP series this is in the English accent.

HUGE Plot Holes.. but Enjoyable

You really need to set aside any semblance of logic or expectation of realistic characters.. but if you can manage it, this first in Victor Kloss's 'Royal Institute Of Magic' series is a fun romp starting with a kid searching for his secretly magical missing parents and ending up indoctrinated into the organization. Kloss is clearly writing a whimsical tale aimed at kids from 6-10 (with teenaged heroes and a world full of elves, goblins, dragons, and a bad guy named - I'm not kidding - "Sucktard" - well, Suktar - but we all know what Kloss meant.)
..but an Adult listener and Fantasy-SciFi addict like myself can appreciate the cleverness. Kloss develops the idea of a Secret Magical Department working within the British Government - present from Renaissance times - that is involved in a potential war with the Dark Elven community. Yes, it's been done before ('Ministry Of Magic', anyone?) and Kloss's interpretation isn't particularly original - but it's a passable effort.

Peter Kenny's solid narration definitely improves my impression of the book. Some of his character voices are distinctly cartoonish (and hence a little disappointingly stereotypical), but he reads with exemplary diction, timbre, cadence, and tone. Podium Audio did well to enlist Kenny on this project.

Taken altogether, 'Elizabeth's Legacy' merits 6 stars out of 10. If you can get it as a 'Plus' option (and are listening with kids) do so by all means..
Should Audible ask for a Credit, however, spend it on some Rowling ('Harry Potter') or Colfer ('Artemis Fowl') - they do it soooo much better.
