À propos de cet audio
Compassionate, biblical, and thought-provoking, Embodied is an accessible guide for Christians who want help navigating issues related to transgenderism.
Preston Sprinkle draws on Scripture as well as real-life stories of individuals struggling with gender dysphoria to help listeners understand the complexities and emotions of this highly relevant topic. With careful research and an engaging style, Embodied explores:
- What it means to be transgender, nonbinary, and gender-queer, and how these identities relate to being male or female
- Why most stereotypes about what it means to be a man and woman comes from the culture and not the Bible
- What the Bible says about humans created in God’s image as male and female, and how this relates to transgender experiences
- Moral questions surrounding medical interventions such as sex reassignment surgery
- Which pronouns to use and how to navigate the bathroom debate
- Why more and more teens are questioning their gender
Written for Christian leaders, pastors, and parents, Embodied fills the great need for Christians to speak into the confusing and emotionally charged questions surrounding the transgender conversation.

In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could?

Must Read
Embodied is a thoughtful approach to a difficult, but growing conversation in culture and the church. Conversations some of us don’t want to have, conversations that are catching us off guard and by surprise, and conversations we are willingly engaging in. With the sudden shift in culture, this book is designed to equip Christians to have informed conversations full of love and grace.
I have to admit, this was a tough read for me. I wrestle internally with thoughts about how to approach this topic. My first thought was, “I don’t even know anyone that is LGBTQ etc.” But on further reflection, I realized that is not true. I actually know quite a few people that identify as LGBTQ+, and therefore decided to approach Embodied again for a second time.
I really admire the layout of the book. The opening chapters address sex and gender, and gender stereotypes. Next, intersex, and other genetic conditions. In closing, social, and cultural concerns are explored on both sides such as “Pronouns, Bathrooms, and Sleeping Spaces”. Each chapter starts with an LGBTQ topic, that is then explained and specified to [the reader] that may not be familiar with the topic/discussion. Once an understanding of the topic has been established, using scripture, Sprinkle then explores the biblical approach to these conversations, while holding fast the truth of scripture. I would recommend that a parent or guardian read this book before deciding if it is suitable for your child. I would argue that the views expressed in this book are for a mature audience and could appear to be affirming as this book hints at using preferred pronouns and does not discuss the sin nature that is in all of us.
After reading Embodied, I now have a better understanding of Trans*, Pronouns, Intersex, and Gender Dysphoria. Another important note is that this book was peer reviewed by many that identify as trans*. I would recommend this book to those that are interested in Christian apologetics. It’s a good exercise in reading controversial material and really provokes the reader to research further the Christian theology surrounding this topic. Although there are some controversial views in this book, the topics are thoroughly researched and discussed, and in my opinion is a must read for Christians today!

thoughtful review of a sensitive subject
it is likely too soon to have any definitive views on the "correct" way to handle this topic...and there may indeed be no "correct" way. The author does his best to slow down the conversation and give enough space to think through this topic with the goal of love, healing, and understanding. If you are looking for a "gotcha", this is not the book...or maybe it is. 🤔

Thank you Preston!
I’ve personally been really blessed by Preston Sprinkle’s work navigating what it looks like to respond Christianly to LGBTQ+ issues and LGBTQ+ people. This book offers a biblically rich, theologically informed approach to questions around transgender issues. A must-read, in my opinion, for Christians who are wrestling with these questions! I especially appreciate the way that Preston not only looks at what the Bible says, but also includes rich insights from sociology, psychology, neuroscience, and other disciplines here. And I also appreciate his deep love, respect, and appreciation for transgender people, which spills over through these pages! Thank you Preston!
