À propos de cet audio

"My interest in this area of study is based on my strong belief that people are born equal but different. It is a belief that equity across gender, race, social class and sexual orientation will be attained in my lifetime."

Equal but Different is based on my doctoral thesis, which investigated the intersection of race, gender, and social class in women leaders' career progression. The women leaders came up with strategies for gender transformation at leadership level. The audiobook presents life stories of women leaders in South Africa and abroad and men who believe in gender equality and have contributed toward this goal. The common thread across the life stories of women who contributed to the audiobook are:

  • A message from family that said ''you can be anything that you set your mind to be''.
  • Supportive men who sponsored and mentored them.
  • Pursuit of education.
  • Determination to succeed.
  • Your initial social class should not determine the person you become. Though the lower your initial social class is, the harder you have to work to achieve your ambitious dreams.

This audiobook is relevant for people across gender, race, and social class who want advice on personal strategies and tactics to succeed; leaders who want to be inclusive, with an empowerment agenda for minorities; mentors across gender; and corporate and government leaders who are committed to transformation.

Ce que les critiques en disent

" Equal but Different arrives at a very critical juncture in the continuing conversation about the status of women in leadership…. The stories of struggles, resilience, and triumph shared by the women in this book reinforce my hope that South Africa will be the nation that offers the world a lesson on how to create a truly equal society. But, as all the women in the book state, it will take structural interventions from all sectors of society as well as leadership from all members of society." (Professor Stella M Nkomo - Outstanding Woman Scientist Award Recipient & A-Rated Researcher)
" Equal but Different reminds us that the journey of every woman began long before her birth. The statistics of marginalized women provide evidence for the intersection of race, class, and socialization. This alongside the narratives provide evidence of lived experiences in a society that is stratified on a multitude of levels. The greatest that Dlamini gives to all women is the way in which she captured the reality of what it means to be equal but different in a post-apartheid society." (Dr Mariam Seedat Khan, VP, Clinical Sociology Programmes, University of Kwazulu Natal)
"The book's brilliance is that while it is based on a doctoral thesis and tackles a complex issue, it is much more than a dry, academic treatise but an eye-opening exposition that describes the issue from many different women leaders' perspectives. The inspirational narratives of the professional journeys of Dr. Dlamini and that of the women leaders she interviewed can be used as a practical tool to inspire the youth, especially young women and girls, and as an activist's manual or workbook for the advancement of gender equality in all spheres of life for the good of our country, continent and the entire globe." (Mazwi Xaba, editor, Sunday Tribune)
