À propos de cet audio
“Passionate summary of the inhuman treatment of the Jewish people in Europe, of the exodus in the 19th and 20th centuries to Palestine, and of the triumphant founding of the new Israel.” (The New York Times)
Exodus is an international publishing phenomenon - the towering novel of the 20th century's most dramatic geopolitical event. Leon Uris magnificently portrays the birth of a new nation in the midst of enemies - the beginning of an earthshaking struggle for power. Here is the tale that swept the world with its fury: the story of an American nurse, an Israeli freedom fighter caught up in a glorious, heartbreaking, triumphant era. Here is Exodus - one of the great best-selling novels of all time.

From the acclaimed author who enthralled the world with Exodus, Battle Cry, QB VII, Topaz, and other beloved classics of twentieth-century fiction comes a sweeping and powerful epic adventure that captures the "terrible beauty" of Ireland during its long and bloody struggle for freedom. It is the electrifying story of an idealistic young Catholic rebel and the valiant and beautiful Protestant girl who defied her heritage to join his cause. It is a tale of love and danger, of triumph at an unthinkable cost.

Originally published in 1953, Leon Uris’s Battle Cry is the raw and exciting story of men at war from a legendary American author. This is the story of enlisted men - Marines at the beginning of World War II. They are a rough-and-ready tangle of guys from America’s cities and farms and reservations. Led by a tough veteran sergeant, these soldiers band together to emerge as part of one of the most elite fighting forces in the world. With staggering realism and detail we follow them into intense battles - Guadalcanal and Tarawa.

It was a time of crisis, a time of tragedy - and a time of transcendent courage and determination. Leon Uris’s blazing novel is set in the midst of the ghetto uprising that defied Nazi tyranny, as the Jews of Warsaw boldly met Wehrmacht tanks with homemade weapons and bare fists. Here, painted on a canvas as broad as its subject matter, is the compelling story of one of the most heroic struggles of modern times.

In Queen's Bench Courtroom Number Seven, famous author Abraham Cady stands trial. In his book The Holocaust - born of the terrible revelation that the Jadwiga Concentration camp was the site of his family's extermination - Cady shook the consciousness of the human race. He also named eminent surgeon Sir Adam Kelno as one of Jadwiga's most sadistic inmate/doctors. Kelno has denied this and brought furious charges. Now unfolds Leon Uris' riveting courtroom drama - one of the great fictional trials of the century.

Gideon Zadok arrives in Israel with every intention to research a new book, mend a broken marriage, and improve his dysfunctional family. But as political tensions escalate and his family is evacuated, Zadok asks to follow Israeli paratroopers to secure Mitla Pass and finds himself in the midst of one of the largest global crises of the twentieth century. A sweeping novel of love, passion, and freedom, Mitla Pass stands as an epic look at modern Middle Eastern history and is quite possibly Uris’s most autobiographical work.

In this sweeping novel, James A. Michener chronicles eight tumultuous centuries as three Polish families live out their destinies. With an inspiring tradition of resistance to brutal invaders, from the barbarians to the Nazis, and a heritage of pride that burns through eras of romantic passion and courageous solidarity, their common story reaches a breathtaking culmination in the historic showdown between the ruthless Communists and rebellious farmers of the modern age.

History we need to know
I have promised myself for several years that I must read this book. I read Trinity and it put the Irish troubles into context. It's not about taking sides but if you understand what motivates a people then you get a look into history in a way that no academic can.
Leon does this with Exodus. The book covers a huge amount of material in a way that kept me at the trough. Leon is a master. Strongly recommend!!

This was a beautiful yet heartbreaking story of the struggle of the Jews over the last 2000 years. It gave me a much clearer understanding of today’s current events. I can highly recommend it.

Important classic that reacquainted me with Israel
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this novel which I had read decades ago. It has stood the test of time. I think in this present age ,when we are getting so much noise from anti Israel propaganda,it is important to familiarize ourselves with Israel’s origin at a time when the targeted annihilation of the Jews had reached epic proportions under Hitler.

Entertaining Propaganda
I was shocked at how cartoonishly racist Exodus was, I would generally try to not judge a book written in the 50s by todays standards, but popular depictions of the Arabs and Palestinians haven't changed much since it was written, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.
Viewed with the hindsight of the past 70+ years in the region, and the world, this book is clearly tired propaganda depicting the inhabitants of the land as backward and savage, and the arriving Jews as having no choice but to take over the land, when all they wanted was peace. Not even the Jewish Arabs are spared from being represented as one step above animals.
Really you could replace "Arab" with any native population, and "Jew" with any group seeking to establish a state on someone else's land, and you've heard this narrative before. Seriously even the bible has more subtlety when trying to depict who the "bad guy" is. This book is clearly trying to sell you something and has so little tact, that I don't know if I should laugh or cry.
How is Exodus is still taken seriously in the 21st century? I have had multiple people point me to this book for it's historicity, and it makes me question peoples critical thinking skills, or wonder if they've read or listened to it recently.
Even though this story is clearly propaganda, I still think it's worth the listen/read, it is entertaining and Paul Michaels narration is fantastic, he has a voice that suits the period well, but if you take this for history or "historical" fiction, I have a bridge to sell you.
