Here Almanzo and his brother and sisters help with the summer planting and fall harvest. In winter there is wood to be chopped and great slabs of ice to be cut from the river and stored. Time for fun comes when the jolly tin peddler visits or, best of all, when the fair comes to town.
This is Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved story of how her husband, Almanzo, grew up as a farmer boy far from the little house where Laura lived.

My favourite book still, after 45 years.
It's a brilliant idea to get your child to read this with you. I know it shaped my character & values far more than scripture. Without being 'preachy'.
Laura captured and presented all the best values and beliefs that we, as a society need to hold. Respect, honesty, responsibility, hard work, patience and understanding AND hope. There's a 2 hardcover set that has every single book in this epic series including the unabridged Farmer Boy. It's also a great parenting guide. This is the 1st time that I have reviewed a book if that moves you to read this gem of a book.

Five star narrator!
Cherry Jones does an amazing job on all the Little House books. I tried reading this aloud multiple times to my boys and they hated the book. I finally downloaded it so we could listen in the car (and finish it) and they fell in love with the book (I already loved it, but I really enjoyed listening the narrator).

Absolute classic
As a boy I read this book dozens of times. So many that my copy was torn pages and no covers.
Well over 20 years later, it still warms my heart. An absolutely amazing story and the narration was fantastic.
