À propos de cet audio

From the best-selling author of The Search for the Green River Killer: a chilling true account of the dream husband who was every woman's nightmare.

Randy Roth was handsome, hardworking, kind, and in top physical shape. But for all his charm and good looks, he was seemingly cursed with the ladies. His first marriage ended in divorce before the couple's fifth anniversary; his second wife plunged to her death during a hike; and his third wife left him after less than five months.

But when Roth's fourth wife, Cynthia, drowned in an apparent speedboating accident in Washington State's Lake Sammamish just weeks after their first anniversary, a pattern of suspicious behavior finally caught up to him. As Roth set about collecting on a hefty insurance payout, the authorities were on to his game.

Roth had been careful - and so close to getting away with it. But, as chronicled by Seattle Times reporter and Pulitzer Prize finalist Carlton Smith, his lies were about to come crashing down around him.

Story moves quickly

I was really pleased with this telling of this story of this arrogant jerk. Last story I listened to had way too much detail but this is just right, all the juicy details of the story and no annoying run-on backgrounds. Awesome!

Enjoyable True Crime

Author Carlton Smith typically offers a "just-the-facts" approach to his exposés: inviting readers to come to their own conclusions as though they were sitting on a jury. It's pretty clear in this documentary of Wife-killer Randy Roth's crimes, however, that Smith *despises* his subject (it's subtle, but obvious). I somewhat miss the LA Times/Seattle Times journalist's usual open-minded perspective.. but also appreciate the author's honesty & offered insight on this project. His inability to stomach the dirtbag (Roth) is pretty striking, but I didn't find the loathing overwhelming.

As to presentation: Keith Sellon-Wright reads the book with his customary professional skill - with unimpeachable diction, a timbre & cadence comfortable for hours of listening, and creditable voice-acting - but he's oddly unemotive on this project for some reason. He's not disinterested or monotone, mind you.. just remarkably "clinical" in his narration. Tantor Audio Inc. provides a quality - but unspectacular - listening product.

Altogether, this audiobook was a great distraction for a couple of quiet afternoons. 'Fatal Charm' rates 8/10-stars. Even should it leave the 'Plus' catalog, it would be worth your Credit.
