Funny how time works. Since her dad died in 2015, Jann cooks for her mom five or six times a week. Her mom finds comfort in her daughter's kitchen, not just in the delicious food but also just sitting with her as she cooks. And Jann finds some peace in caring for her mom, even as her mom slowly becomes a stranger. "If you told me two years ago that I'd be here," Jann writes, "I wouldn't have believed it. And yet we still fall into so much laughter, feel so much insane gladness and joy. It's such a contrast from one minute to the next and it teaches me constantly: It makes me stronger and more humble and more empathetic and caring and kind."

Comfort
Jann Arden has brought me such comfort and joy as she has told her story. She is distinctly Canadian and there is so much that she talks about that is exactly right-whether it’s finding the remote in the dog food bag or giving the squirrels scraps of material for their nests, she makes the connections that anyone who has an aging parent, maybe living with Alzheimer’s or not can relate to and have a little laugh at the. Keep going...loved this book!

Too bad the recipes are missing
Loved the anecdotes, but too bad the publisher didn't include a pdf of the recipes that aren't included in the audiobook version....

Thanks you, for wonderfully writing your real and raw, vulnerable moments with us in the evident life changing challenges of living with Alzheimer’s.
Just listening to your story has endeared me to your mom and her amazing resilience and your candid humorous thought provoking expression of how your spirit and body shared those moments with your Mom and Dad. Thank you for being open it has opened me up to be grateful for the opportunity to become my best self in the midsts of what I viewed as hopeless chaos.

A wonderful listen
Jann has a wonderful way of storytelling. I am grateful for many of her words as they resonated with me so much as a woman "raising" 2 parents with dementia. There is hope and she is right- you have to help yourself or you won't get through this journey with them. It can bring growth if you seek it...and don't beat yourself up if you screw up along the way. Try to laugh whenever you can.

My father has been battling Alzheimer's for years now, and I found comfort and relief knowing that I was not the only one feeling this way. The stories in your book have touch me. I can not help to remember the troubles and heartbreak I faced and are facing with dad. Alzheimer's does take away everything that one has. It truly breaks my heart.

Love this book
Feeding my Mother is a wonderful piece of truth written by Canada's Jann Arden. I bought this when it first came out a few years ago and read it on a 5 hour plane ride and couldn't put it down. I am revisiting it by way of audio. A gentle reminder of what is important in life - Jann's spirit shines through in her work.

Amazing As Told By Jann Arden Herself !!
I would not have considered listening to this book, had it not been for the fact that Jann Arden was narrating it. Absolutely worth every minute of listening to a subject that definitely requires much more education and awareness. Thanx so much Audible for offering this book in your collection !!
