À propos de cet audio

From the wickedly funny and feminist creator and host of the Throwing Shade podcast, a collection of hilarious personal essays and political commentary perfect for fans of Lindy West and Roxane Gay.

Since women earned the right to vote a little less than 100 years ago, our progress hasn't been the Olympic sprint toward gender equality first-wave feminists hoped for, but more of a slow, elderly mall walk (with frequent stops to Cinnabon) over the 400 million hurdles we still face. Some of these obstacles are obvious - unequal pay, underrepresentation in government, reproductive restrictions, lack of floor-length mirrors in hotel rooms. But a lot of them are harder to identify. They're the white noise of oppression that we've accepted as lady business as usual, and the patriarchy wants to keep it that way.

Erin Gibson has a singular goal - to create a utopian future where women are recognized as humans. In Feminasty - titled after her nickname on the hit podcast Throwing Shade - she has written a collection of make-you-laugh-until-you-cry essays that expose the hidden rules that make life as a woman unnecessarily hard and deconstructs them in a way that's bold, provocative, and hilarious. Whether it's shaming women for having their periods, allowing them into STEM fields but never treating them like they truly belong, or dictating strict rules for how they should dress in every situation, Erin breaks down the organized chaos of old-fashioned sexism, intentional and otherwise, that systemically keeps women down.

Erin does a great job of taking the rage that I have inside of me, over these everyday things that happen to women, and turning it into humor. I still feel angry but it's been a while since I felt someone truly related to what I feel! I hope there's a second book coming!

The best book I've heard in a long time!

By far my favorite audiobook to listen to. Lots of creative voice acting. Messages were relatable and all too true!

Book read by author

Erin Gibson hecking rocks. SO MUCH had happened since this book was published that it's not longer 100% on the pulse of the present momo. But fear not cos Erin regularly gives updates on her podcast, Attitudes. I love and appreciate her passion and effort!

Good but a little dated already

I could listen to this woman endlessly

The sound of this woman's voice was like nails on a chalkboard to me... I feel like the content is good, but I listen to audio books while walking or driving - activities I generally find relaxing. I'm not looking to get yelled at while trying to consume content lol Would give this another try as a hard copy, but unfortunately, the audio book is not for me.

Narration was too intense

I am glad that Gibson narrated her own book. Ordinarily, it can be a challenge to interpret the state-of-mind or intonation of an author, which can add to the charm of a book.
Gibson is a smug, self-satisfied, ignorant blow-hard. She starts chapters with a premise and then undermines it utterly, rounding off with why the opposite is true. That would be fine if the intro was sarcastic but it is clear she wholeheartedly believes the premise and the inverse.
My particular favourite was her describing her hatred of those who say that women shouldn't 'dress a certain way' or 'act a certain way' in order to avoid sexual assault, but then describes her first sexual experience with 'Bubba' who she had to 'charm' by dressing as sluttily as she could and laughing herself hoarse at his unfunny jokes (because she couldn't have sex with anyone else). That too might have been an amusing tale were it not that we learn she used to drive hours to a different State to have sex with him - regularly.
Gibson shows that feminists of her ilk have no dignity, decorum or integrity.
Please buy this audiobook and discover - first hand - how hateful and vile women can be and how it is up to the rest of women to learn from her and, as she might say, "do better".
