À propos de cet audio
The author of Self-Compassion follows up her groundbreaking book with new ideas that expand our notion of self-kindness and its capacity to transform our lives, showing women how to balance tender self-acceptance with fierce action to claim their power and change the world.
Kristin Neff changed how we talk about self-care with her enormously popular first book, Self-Compassion. Now, 10 years and many studies later, she expands her body of work to explore a brand-new take on self-compassion. Although kindness and self-acceptance allow us to be with ourselves as we are, in all our glorious imperfection, the desire to alleviate suffering at the heart of this mindset isn't always gentle, sometimes it's fierce. We must also act courageously in order to protect ourselves from harm and injustice, say no to others so we can meet our own needs, and motivate necessary change in ourselves and society.
Gender roles demand that women be soft and nurturing, not angry or powerful. But like yin and yang, the energies of fierce and tender self-compassion must be balanced for wholeness and well-being. Drawing on a wealth of research, her personal life story and empirically supported practices, Neff demonstrates how women can use fierce and tender self-compassion to succeed in the workplace, engage in caregiving without burning out, be authentic in relationships, and end the silence around sexual harassment and abuse. Most women intuitively recognize fierceness as part of their true nature, but have been discouraged from developing it. Women must reclaim their power in order to create a healthier society and find lasting happiness.
In this wise, caring, and enlightening book, Neff shows women how to reclaim balance within themselves, so they can help restore balance in the world.

The relentless pursuit of high self-esteem has become a virtual religion - and a tyrannical one at that. Our ultracompetitive culture tells us we need to be constantly above average to feel good about ourselves, but there is always someone more attractive, successful, or intelligent than we are. And even when we do manage to grab hold of high self-esteem for a brief moment, we can't seem to keep it. Our sense of self-worth goes up and down like a ping-pong ball, rising and falling in lockstep with our latest success or failure.

Why does it feel so natural to be compassionate and kind to those we care about - yet so hard to treat ourselves the same way? "Our culture teaches us to use self-criticism for motivation and to build self-esteem by constantly measuring ourselves against everyone else," says Dr. Kristin Neff. "We need to re-learn the essential skill of being genuinely nurturing and supportive toward ourselves."

In the face of a threatening or unjust situation, have you ever kept silent because you didn't want to rock the boat or make things worse? And then, did you wonder: "Next time, how can I become stronger and more effective?" That's the purpose of The Yin and Yang of Self-Compassion. Kristin Neff, PhD, created this inspiring audio program to help you understand and build the two complementary aspects of this crucial skill: the receptive Yin side self-compassion and the active Yang side self-compassion.

As Pema explains, suffering arises when we resist the laws of impermenance-the fact that everything we know, including ourselves, will one day die.

Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.

An intense conversation, a spat with a partner, or even an obnoxious tweet - these situations aren't life-or-death, yet we often react as if they are. That's because our bodies treat most perceived threats the same way. Yet one approach has proven to be incredibly effective in training our nervous system to stop overreacting: polyvagal theory. In Anchored, expert teacher Deb Dana shares a down-to-earth presentation of polyvagal theory, then brings the science to life with practical, everyday ways to transform your relationship with your body.

Narrator's tone activates soothing self compassion
The narrator mirrors the text so well that it actively encourages soothing self compassion in a way that opened my mind. Kristin wrote an excellent self exploring guide without the pop psychology you might be used to when reading wellness texts. I enjoyed this new title.

PSA: HARD COPY PREFERABLE
This book, like so many others in this genre, contains sections for meditation and exercises. It’s written for the hard copy experience. I feel I can’t fully enjoy this book and all it has to offer via audiobook and I wish more people had noted this in the reviews. I get migraines so understand that some people need to do audiobooks to be able to indulge in reading, but if you can consume hard copies, you absolutely should go that way with this book.

Judgmental and biased
While there were some good points to consider on self compassion, it was not at all what I was expecting or looking for. With a strong taste of bitterness and resentment towards all men woven throughout the book, the stories were biased and unbalanced for the reader. Most of the people I have been traumatized by have been women and am involved a healthy loving supportive marriage to a man who empowers and encourages me to be all that I can as a woman. The book tackles the subjects covered from a biased and unbalanced perspective with only vague references to other types of relationships or experiences that could easily have been addressed with a focus on self compassion. As it is, I am left feeling a distaste, rather than feeling safe and therefore less able to appropriate the self compassionate ideas due to the bitter tone of the overall sense of the book. Perhaps the author should work on some self compassion and healing and forgiveness for wounds that have left a bitter scar. My sincerest condolences to whatever event left such a deep traumatic wound.

Important but repetitive
There are many important messages in this book that are absolutely worth listening to. Cultivating both tender and fierce self compassion as well as not being ashamed of our anger will stay with me as important lessons. I just don't know how many times you can say the same things over and over again, or go through outcomes of studies with the basic same results as if it's a lit review. The narrator is a great speaker, but lulls me off to not paying attention. I have a couple of hours left of the book, but not sure when I will return to it

I wanted to love it
I figured I didn’t need to read reviews, since I absolutely love Kristin Neff and her other books, and her website! I respect her greatly. I listened to the sample, which was great. But when you buy the book, she starts off with all of these woke talking points and it immediately turned me off. I almost returned it, but I figure I’ll give it a go and hope this book isn’t just a lecture on privilege and climate change and sexism. Those things are important, but they’re not what I bought this book for. I mean, seriously, what does climate change have to do with building self compassion? 🤣 it just instantly made me think and feel that this book was just going to be focused on virtue signalling, and not on helping me become fiercely self compassionate. I’ll give it another try because I really do love Kristin, but that turned me SO off.

Monotone voice
The book is great. Not the narrator. Her voice is very monotone, flat, drawn out and boring. Not at all soothing. She talks in slow motion.
