À propos de cet audio

From farmer Joel Salatin's point of view, life in the 21st century just ain't normal. Here, he discusses how far removed we are from the simple, sustainable joy that comes from living close to the land and the people we love. Salatin has many thoughts on what normal is and shares practical and philosophical ideas for changing our lives in small ways that have big impacts.

>Salatin, hailed by the New York Times as "Virginia's most multifaceted agrarian since Thomas Jefferson [and] the high priest of the pasture", and profiled in the Academy Award-nominated documentary Food, Inc. and the best-selling book The Omnivore's Dilemma, understands what food should be: wholesome, seasonal, raised naturally, procured locally, prepared lovingly, and eaten with a profound reverence for the circle of life.

And his message doesn't stop there. From child-rearing to creating quality family time, to respecting the environment, Salatin writes with a wicked sense of humor and true storyteller's knack for the revealing anecdote.

Salatin's crucial message and distinctive voice - practical, provocative, scientific, and down-home philosophical in equal measure - makes Folks, This Ain't Normal a must-listen book.

A refreshing change in perspective

A captivating book and an easy listen.
This book challenges a lot of very controversial food issues and sheds light on the darkness of the big food industry and the government’s over scrupulous control on the small business

Shocking and unfortunately very accurate!

The author, Joel Salatin, really surprised me. I went into this book expecting to disagree with at least 50% of it, but to be honest I’m now experiencing a bit of a paradigm shift which is really quite uncommon for a single book to do that. This book should really be required reading for everybody who lives in a westernized society; Canada, United States of America, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom for example. I will never look at the food I eat the same way again.

Paradigm shifting

This book opened my eyes to the world of small scale, local farming and eating practices. Salatin makes a strong case for why North America (he writes about the US but a lot of this can apply to Canada as well) needs to change the way we address our food consumption, the environment and laws. I don’t agree with everything he says in the book but that’s not necessary to have have learned so much from it. Another copy will be a gift for some friends and family here soon because I believe it should be in everyone’s “must read” list. I have mad respect for Mr Salatin, I wish his farm and family prosperity and much happiness.

So refreshingly full of what feels like long forgotten common sense.

II have listened to dozens of audio books this year but this is the first time I felt inspired to write a review. I smiled to myself a hundred times and felt inspired, renewed and even hopeful about the future. Joel Salatin does a fantastic job balancing the absurdity and apparent futility of the world we live in with common sense, workable steps we can all take to turn things around. I love this book and I’ll so glad I found it and had the opportunity to learn from Joel. I will be sharing this with everyone I know and love in the hope that it continues to help generate the ripples of sensible solutions we need to make a better world!

Very informative.

Very informative and stimulates my interest in ethical farming & sustainable agriculture.

In a victim culture where everyone blames livestock farming on anything they can get away with - Joel Salatin gets some things off his chest about the politics and malpractices of farming and he offers up real world solutions to some of the very terrible problems consumers face. It's not a book that fixes all things but It's obvious he's passionate about his work and is doing his best to leave the Earth better than he found it.
This was me dipping my toes into learning where my food comes from for the first time
It was a very eye opening experience and I feel like I've gained a lot of useful knowledge that will benefit me for years to come. This is like the Redpill of farming and where your food comes from

Makes you realize how "abnormal" things are

Such a great book really makes you reflect on your current situation and what you can do to change it (assuming you want to.)

The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because the last three/ four hours were basically a rant against the government, government organizations and the like. I also thought that many of the points were made from an American perspective. It didn't take away from the overall message just needed to think about how to apply it to your personal situation and area of residence

Highly recommend it if you're frequently asking yourself where the hell are we and where the hell are we going
