À propos de cet audio
A riveting tale of unfathomable success, great joy, deep pain, and redemption that can come only from above.
From a working-class background in North Carolina to a job as a cook and club singer in Nashville to his "overnight success" with his smash 1986 album Storms of Life - which launched the neotraditional movement in country music - Randy’s first three decades are a true rags-to-riches story.
But in 2009, this seemingly charmed life began a downward spiral. His marriage dissolved, he discovered that his finances had unraveled, and his struggles with anger led to alcohol abuse, public embarrassment, and even police arrest in 2012.
Then, just as he was putting his life back together, Randy suffered a devastating viral cardiomyopathy that led to a massive stroke that he was not expected to survive. Yet he not only survived but also learned to walk again and in 2016 accepted his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame by singing the hymn that explains his life today: "Amazing Grace".
Filled with never-before-told stories, Forever and Ever, Amen a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at dizzying success and the miraculous road to restoration.

Amazing book. Only thing missing is Randy.
I absolutely love the music of Randy Travis.
So much of his early life was already somewhat legendary. The reckless youth, his relationship with a much older woman. His later arrests and stroke are also well known. But everything in between is covered in this book.
It’s a very heartfelt account where Randy doesn’t shy away from the tough subjects (the abuse by his father, his legal troubles as a teen messing with drugs and alcohol, his sexual relationship with the married, older woman who would eventually become his manager while only 17 years old). He keeps it classy, not going into dirty details. He also remains humble, even thanking his ex-wife and manger for his success. As you going on in the book, you realize how incredibly controlling and manipulative she really was, up to and including openly cheating on him with a much younger man, even forcing Randy to record a duet with him and stealing money from him, which left him financially crippled to this day.
One of the best stories in this book is when this “strong woman” gets taken down a notch by an even stronger woman: Nancy Jones, wife of country icon George Jones.
He acknowledges his naïveté in many of these matters. He also acknowledges his regret over how his relationship with his current wife began.
I love that he is finally able to tell his side of the story about his much publicized arrests, making many apologies, but absolutely no excuses. He owns up to everything.
Through it all, there is a tone of optimism and positivity.
A very refreshing inclusion is the touching reflections of narrator Rory Feek (of the country music duo Joey + Rory). You can tell how grateful he was to know Randy.
I can’t say enough about how Rory brought Randy’s story to life. He lifted Randy’s words off the page and delivered them with pathos and authenticity.
The only thing that would have made this book better would have been to hear Randy’s voice narrating. But we know that isn’t possible (at least not yet).
If you are a fan, this book is a must.
