Great book but the monster is annoying
Great book, but the middle is a slog. The monster tries to give a filibuster of a monologue every chance he gets and its so annoying.

Shelley’s masterpiece, widely accessible
I’m drawn to this marvellous novel not by its eminent place among horror or science fiction, but as the culmination of Romantic genius. It is indeed hopelessly sentimental, as Victor and the creature each are. Yet it wields a double edge as both those characters do. If you want moralizing, this isn’t it. And yet you’ll need to suspend your 20th- and 21st-century cynicism to believe the majesty and splendour of its lyricism and its vistas.
Dan Stevens’ performance here is admirable, not unassailable. This work demands different voices (because spoken from different perspectives and incorporating extended dialogue), and he hits on almost all of them. The Creature in this performance is at times whiny in his attempt to be sympathetic. (A different tone could make him very threatening, indeed.) Victor is very complex but Stevens for the most part manages not to make him disgusting and at moments heroic.
I’m grateful that this was commissioned and recommend this edition heartily.
[P.S.: this appears to be the 1818 edition, which most scholars now prefer over the more available 1831 edition. Still, it’d have been nice to get Shelley’s 1831 “Introduction” as an appendix.)

Well written but long winded
I struggled to finish this. In comparison to Dracula and Dr. Jykell and Mr. Hyde, I found both the monster and Victor Frankenstein quite long winded.
The narration was fabulous, though, and kept me going .

A new outlook on Frankenstein’s creature
I recently read this classic and was surprised to discover that Frankenstein himself appeared more monstrous than the creature he brought to life. The tale highlights how we tend to judge based on appearance, leaving the abandoned creature longing for companionship and guidance. The story evoked strong emotions with well-developed characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Loved the announcer voice

A perennial classic.
Far and above the Hollywood versions, this story is a poignant and brutal dive into the best and worst of humanity.

Wow! Tragedy your name is Frankenstein
I have not really partaken if literary tragedies before having listened to this. It is a wonderfully written story. I love the poetry of the dialogue and the depth of pain conveyed through the characters. Tragic but beautiful. Enough said.
