À propos de cet audio
Clinical psychologist Dr. Neiders has written a book on a highly successful stuttering therapy that enhances the ability to recover from stuttering by using a holistic approach. The therapy utilizes psychological methods from Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy to manage the unhealthy negative feelings of anxiety, shame, guilt and worthlessness and the beliefs upon which these feelings are based. To eliminate the uncontrollable struggling, forced stutters the authors explain how to learn easy bounces, a minimally disruptive habit based on the Iowa bounce technique adapted from Wendell Johnson.
This book was designed as a self-help book; however, it has proven to be a very useful tool for clinicians (psychologists and speech and language professionals) to expedite recovery. Dr. Neiders refers to the outcome of the therapy as operational fluency. A diligent listener who completes the assigned exercises will be, for all practical purposes, fluent: a) disfluencies will be significantly fewer and significantly less severe; b) the feelings of anxiety, shame, guilt and inferiority will be practically gone; c) career and social opportunities will increase; and d) the individual will no longer be obsessed with stuttering (frequently days will go by when the topic of stuttering will not cross their mind), arriving at a positive appraisal of oneself.
