À propos de cet audio
The idea that you have to be rich to travel the world on your own yacht is so universal that it goes largely unquestioned. The ubiquitous images of rich men on super-yachts sipping Martinis only help cement this image. This book hopes to change all that.
Rick's recent appearance on Ben Fogle's New Lives in the Wild chronicled his budget lifestyle and adventures aboard Calypso, and introduced the idea of budget sailing to a whole new audience - an audience who may have never considered the possibility that such a dream could be made a reality, on such a small amount of money. This book is for them and for any experienced sailors who want to cast off the yoke of consumerist yachting and get back to what really matters at sea.
If you are not rich, but dream of seeing our beautiful world from the deck of your own boat, this book is packed full of practical and spiritual advice to help you cut through the endless marketing and identify what it is you truly need to become a modern sea gypsy and sail away on the greatest adventure of your life...

Histoire
On May 15, 2010, after 210 days at sea and more than 22,000 nautical miles, 16-year-old Jessica Watson sailed her 33-foot boat triumphantly back to land. She had done it. She was the youngest person to sail solo, unassisted, and nonstop around the world. Jessica spent years preparing for this moment, years focused on achieving her dream. Yet only eight months before, she collided with a 63,000-ton freighter. It seemed to many that she’d failed before she’d even begun, but Jessica brushed herself off, held her head high, and kept going.

John Kretschmer is sailing’s practical philosopher - as much a doer as a thinker. And that is the overarching theme of this chronicle of a sailing life. Often amusing, sometimes poignant, occasionally terrifying but always inspiring, his deeply personal account is a welcome reminder of the good life waiting at sea. With hundreds of thousands of nautical miles under his keel, John’s adventures have taken him several times around the world.

a practical approach to sailing away
I found a lot of honest advise in this charmingly captivating and realistic guide for those of us who dream of permanently leaving our picket fences behind without having a trust fund or lottery winnings to make our hopes and dreams a reality. This book offers a wonderfully smart and money conscience approach to making the dream of living a life at sea a reality.
by cutting through the fluff of advertising and materialistic bloat often attached to just about everything in our society the author offers a better understand of what's necessary to achieve the dream of living on island time.
Thank you Rick for helping me take a moment to better understand my electrical usage and offering good alternatives to common items that will save me frustration and reduce my power consumption in the future. I bought a manual head for half the cost of an electric and saved enough to buy a good quality foot pump for the galley sink.
