À propos de cet audio
Winner of the Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel
From a master of horror comes an apocalyptic showdown between the residents of a secluded, rural town and the deadly evil that confronts them wherever they turn.
Evil doesn’t die.
The cozy little town of Pine Deep buried the horrors of its past a long time ago. Thirty years have gone by since the darkness descended and the Black Harvest began, a time when a serial killer sheared a bloody swath through the quiet Pennsylvania village. The evil that once coursed through Pine Deep has been replaced by cheerful tourists getting ready to enjoy the country’s largest Halloween celebration in what is now called “The Spookiest Town in America.”
It just grows stronger.
But then—a month before Halloween—it begins. Unspeakably desecrated bodies. Inexplicable insanity. An ancient evil walks the streets, drawing in those who would fall to their own demons and seeking to shred the very soul of this rapidly fracturing community. Yes, the residents of Pine Deep have drawn together and faced a killer before. But this time, evil has many faces—and the lust and will to rule the earth. This struggle will be epic.

the way he writes the characters you actually fear for their safety and care for them
the author writes in a descriptive way that isn't tedious and he writes the character so you actually start to care for them fear for them and worry for them the way he portrays the change with Iron Mike Sweeney makes you want to either hold his hand or start cheering the author is like this with all his books I highly recommend

good, bit slow
If you go in understanding that it sets the stage for future books, then you are all ser. I think that the setup on characters are a bit repetitive. Could have taken half the book allowing the second book to carry on. This book can sit on its own and is not a cliff hanger.

Well written.
Good storytelling and a slice of small town life. The story in this novel ends but there is plenty of stuff left hanging as it is part of a series.

Great beginning
Excellently narrated. Good characterizations. Awesome all around. Highly recommended if you like authors like Stephen king. Reminds me of The Stand.

Racism and hate fueled speech in a horror book? Why?
I read an anthology of short stories about Pine deep and enjoyed it for the most part. The short stories kept advising of the trilogy, so I found this one...the first one in the anthology and so far I am disappointed. So much open racism and killing of black men and I’m finding it hard to figure out why and how it relates to the overall story or trilogy when not a trace is found in the anthology, even though it speaks of the master demon and pine deep as a whole.
As much of a master horror writer as Jonathan Mayberry is proposed to be, I have no desire to listen to the hatred being spewed when it doesn’t further the story. Didn’t even bother listening past character 3 and glad this didn’t cost a credit.
