À propos de cet audio

A terrified voice cried out in the night. "Who are you? What do you want?"

The sound of snapping twigs closed in on the five teenagers enjoying an evening around a glowing campfire at Gitchie Manitou State Park. The night of music and laughter had taken a dark turn. Evil loomed just beyond the tree line, and before the night was over, one of the Midwest's most horrific mass murders had left its bloodstains spewed across the campsite. One managed to survive and would come to be known as the "Gitchie Girl". Harrowing memories of the terrifying crime sent her spiraling out of control, and she grasped at every avenue to rebuild her life.

Can one man, a rescue dog, and a glimmer of faith salvage a broken soul? This true story will touch your heart and leave you cheering that good can prevail over the depravity of mankind.

Phil and Sandy Hamman offer what amounts to a biography following the travails of Sandra Cheskey - the lone survivor of a somewhat bizarre mass killing in an Iowa State Park when she was 13. Her testimony was key to convicting three Sioux Falls brothers of murdering four of her teenage friends basically for no reason (for their pot?).
The book covers the crime, investigation, and trial reasonably well.. but mainly deals with the complications in her life before, during, and after her mindblowing life challenge (family problems growing up; disbelief on the part of LEOs at her story; contentious relationships afterward). It's an unusual book - written in a narrative style that takes so much artistic license that readers/listeners are correct to question authenticity.
I found the recording browsing the "True Crime" library on Audible.. but it's not that. It's more like a "based on a true story" personality exposition that's not as dramatized as most. Meh.

As to presentation: Reader Callie Beaulieu turns in a creditable narration - but fails to distinguish herself. I can't rate her performance any higher than "average". Tantor Audio Inc. could easily have cast this project equally effectively with any professional voice actor.

If you can get this 5.5/10-star title off of the 'Plus' (included with subscription) menu, it's not a crazy investment of time. 'Gitchie Girl' was a reasonable distraction for a quiet afternoon of listening.. but wasn't good enough to rate a Credit (should they ask for one).
