À propos de cet audio
Set in Minnesota, Gone to Dust is the debut private-eye murder mystery from Emmy Award-winning Seinfeld writer Matt Goldman.
A brutal crime. The ultimate cover-up. How do you solve a murder with no useable evidence?
Private detective Nils Shapiro is focused on forgetting his ex-wife and keeping warm during another Minneapolis winter when a former colleague, neighboring Edina Police Detective Anders Ellegaard, calls with the impossible.
Suburban divorcée Maggie Somerville was found murdered in her bedroom, her body covered with the dust from hundreds of emptied vacuum cleaner bags, all potential DNA evidence obscured by the calculating killer.
Digging into Maggie's cell-phone records, Nils finds that the most frequently called number belongs to a mysterious young woman whose true identity could shatter the Somerville family - but could she be guilty of murder?
After the FBI demands that Nils drop the case, Nils and Ellegaard are forced to take their investigation underground, where the case grows as murky as the contents of the vacuum cleaner bags. Is this a strange case of domestic violence or something with far-reaching, sinister implications?

Well done!
Gone to Dust by Matt Goldman was a well-thought out story! The murderer had to have planned this for years to get that much vacuum dust to hide his or her identity. There were many characters in the story, but I didn't need a playbook because they were so well fleshed out that I always remembered who they were. Although, there was the odd moment of unnecessary description, such as that of Detective Ellegaard's daughters, that cluttered up the story. The narration by MacLeod Andrews was spot on! Beautifully done! I'm going on to Goldman's next novel, Broken Ice, Book 2 in the Nils Shapiro Series, with Andrews narrating again!

Loved it! Murder mystery with some romance interspersed. Great story and the narrator was excellent. Well written, well read. Five stars! I look forward to more from this author and from the narrator as well.

'Decent' Debut. Weird Pacing
Matt Goldman's Minnesota PI Nils Shapiro is called in by the local police to help solve a troubling murder complicated by a perpetrator who understands how to spoof forensics. The mystery is adequately captivating, the characters are reasonably interesting, and dialogue is realistic. Goldman writes with a little too much sardonic wit, but with a creditable vocabulary and commendable prose.
My issue with the story is that the investigation proceeds in fits & starts, the twists and Red Herrings drop almost randomly, and there are oddly-timed stretches of the book where virtually *nothing* happens except for flirting and sex (although Goldman is pretty good at writing that stuff).
Regardless, it's hard to get into a rhythm with this book.
I must say the performance from MacLeod Andrews improves the quality of this recording: His diction, timbre, cadence, and voice-acting are remarkable. The best aspect of the narration, however, is the tone. The book is written in First-Person, and Andrews finds the perfect balance between serious and sarcastic in his interpretation of Nils Shapiro's voice-over.
This is the best reading exhibition I have yet heard from Andrews. Blackstone Audio Inc. cast this project beautifully.
This audiobook rates 7 stars out of 10 (it's distinctly average, but gets extra points for great production standards). Audible offered this book for free as part of the 'Plus' initiative and I'm generally happy that I downloaded it.. 'Gone To Dust' was a fine way to spend a couple of cold afternoons.
I wouldn't spend a Credit on it, but if you're looking to make a long drive or a lonely night shift tolerable, this is a passable Private Dick novel.

Enjoyable Detective Novel
A little too descriptive at times, but the protagonist is likeable and the mystery was well done.
