Fantastic listen!
Hansen, a Vietnam veteran with a degree in English Lit. leaves academia to join the Oakland California Police in mid 1980s. Unlike most most police, he lives in the district he serves. It’s the downtown core, poo4, mostly black, and rife with drugs. Due to Hansen’s ability to d3fuse tough, potentially violent situations by actively listening, being polite, he earns the respect of the citizens and distrust of his fellow cops who prefer intimidation to mediation. That’s where the story’s conflict begins in this unusual police procedural. There is vivid characterization, many revealing details of policing, and violence too. Will Hansen make it through his probationary time and leave Oakland for good? I will be listening to Green ?Sun again. The story has captured my interest, wasn’t sure at first what to expect from a unusual plot. Can’t wait for mor!
