Book 8 in the Dawn of Fire Series

As the Indomitus Crusade rages on, Inquisitor Rostov discovers vital intelligence that could reveal the plan of the notorious Hand of Abaddon, and hastily gathers together those loyal to his cause.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

The dark schemes of the Hand of Abaddon near fruition. Can the already stretched forces of the Imperium manage to hunt down and prevent this new threat?

THE STORY

Defending the Anaxian Line, Ultramarines Lieutenant Ferren Areios uncovers a dread vision that has ties to the mission of an old ally. Meanwhile, Magda Kesh campaigns alongside the 84th Mordian. Though she refutes her fate as something more than a mere soldier, is she truly touched by the Emperor?

Despite a fractious alliance, the Hand’s scheme is reaching culmination. Amidst the infighting, Tharador Yheng yearns to be free of her master Tenebrus’ shadow and claim her destiny. But another acolyte has embarked on his own path, the Red Corsair Graeyl Herek. Both vie for the favour of the Dark Gods, and the means to harness an ancient evil that could reshape the war between the Imperium and Chaos.

Written by Nick Kyme. Narrated by John Banks. Runtime 13 hours and 4 minutes approx.

Ignore the bad reviews

read some of the first reviews and sighed turns out some guy just needs flashy noises to accompany his space books and the other guy has no clue what's going on...there's still one more book before we go into the second part of the indomitus crusade.....anyway this book is pretty amazing honestly one of the better plot point movers in the series to not give to much away SGT Kesh finally comes into having served a proper purpose in the plot rather than being there for the normal human guard perspective which is what I honestly thought it was.

Excellent

I enjoyed this novel; the delivery was fantastic, John Banks is 10/10 as the narrator, and I enjoyed the story. Many plotlines can feel disjointed if you don't have solid attention to detail over the previous novels. Still, as someone enjoying this series, I found it perfectly enjoyable. Is it another Gaunt's Ghosts or Eisenhorn? Of course not, but it's not really trying to be, and it's still a solid 8.5/10 story that is a good time.

If anything, this book suffers from its place as a transitional piece, tying together all of the desperate threads from the other novels ahead of the grand finale for this series in the upcoming Book 9.

How is this the final novel?

There was some good moments but this utterly fails as a penultimate novel in a series. So many things from earlier books unresolved. Amongst the books in the series this ranks among the weakest. Safe to skip this one unless your interested in one of the characters on the cover in which case it's not bad. Performances are good.

Kinda just really bad

Struggling with far to many plot lines and characters, Kyme’s prose really falls short. It is inconsistent with prior entries in the series and contains at least one plot hole. The Kin are clearly here for advertising and it’s a shame. Finally Banks does a great job as always but the lack of audio effects from Sea of Souls is disappointing. The crackling vox really elevated that books. Dawn of Fire started great but can’t seem to be good twice in a row since Wolftime. Unfortunately you do have to read it because unlike other stinkers (wolf time and martyrs tomb) it is connected to the main plot.
