Great story, Painful narration
Honestly better than the first book. It’s dark, addictive, and packed with drama, just like I was hoping for. The story itself was great, and the chemistry between the characters was on point. But I’ve got to be honest, the narrator almost ruined it for me.
Whoever was narrating couldn’t stop over pronouncing every single “T” in every sentence. It was so distracting! It felt like they had just learned English and were hyperfocused on enunciating everything too perfectly. Instead of getting lost in the story, I kept getting pulled out of it, cringing at how unnatural it sounded.
I’d definitely recommend the book itself, but if you’re thinking of listening to the audiobook, maybe try a sample first to see if you can tolerate the narration. I’m not sure I’ll pick up another audiobook with this same narrator, but I’ll definitely be reading more from Penelope Douglas but maybe pass on the audiobooks

Loving the series so far
I enjoyed that Kai was the 2nd book, especially since he was a bit of a mysterious character in the first one. Looking forward to the rest of the series

A Dark and Intense Thriller

Having delved into "Hideaway" by Penelope Douglas for the first time, I opted for the audio version, and I must say, it was beautifully played, adding an extra layer to the already intense narrative.
This book is nothing short of intense and downright messed up in the best possible way. What sets Douglas apart is her ability to keep readers on the edge of their seats with unpredictable twists and turns. You're never certain of a happy ending, which adds to the thrill.
The story is shrouded in suspense, with dark undertones permeating every page. I found myself unable to predict the ending, and I won't spoil it here. Suffice it to say, the depth of the narrative is something you have to experience firsthand.
"Hideaway" brings back the adrenaline rush of Devil's Night, with its intricate plot and compelling characters. The dynamic between Banks and Kai is fraught with tension, making for a gripping read.
In summary, if you're looking for a tense, suspenseful, and dark story that keeps you guessing until the very end, "Hideaway" is a must-read. Just be prepared for a wild ride into the depths of mystery and intrigue.

Story was on.
I very much dislike how the female narrator accentuates the word “to”.

Kai 😍
Kai is so much more softer and understanding than Michael was. I mean don’t get me wrong he still has his dark moments but I really enjoy Kai. A lot of the times I felt sorry for him for the way Banks was never choosing him when he would do anything for Her.
Banks as well my heart felt for the suffering and abuse she went through. But that girl sure knew how to aggravate me. I swear I could feel the aggravation Kai was feeling towards her cause I was feeling them too.

Alternate POV and time line
I listened to this one on Audible. I adored Kai but I found Banks to be annoying and whiney. The alternating POVs and time line were great helping to paint a full picture of the relationships betwee all the main characters. Alex and Will are probably my favorite and I want to go shopping with them.

Female reader was rough
I ended up having to switch to my kindle to finish the book from chapter 15 because I could not listen to the way the reader pronounced ‘to’ among other things

Toxic Characters
The first book was terrible but I finished it due to the great reviews of Hideaway. Unfortunately I cannot finish this book. I find myself wondering if the author of this book dislikes women and why are all the male characters so toxic?
