À propos de cet audio
Groundhog Day meets Guardians of the Galaxy in Django Wexler’s laugh-out-loud fantasy tale about a young woman who, tired of defending humanity from the Dark Lord, decides to become the Dark Lord herself.
Davi has done this all before. She’s tried to be the hero and take down the all-powerful Dark Lord. A hundred times she’s rallied humanity and made the final charge. But the time loop always gets her in the end. Sometimes she’s killed quickly. Sometimes it takes a while. But she’s been defeated every time.
This time? She’s done being the hero and done being stuck in this endless time loop. If the Dark Lord always wins, then maybe that’s who she needs to be. It’s Davi’s turn to play on the winning side.

“All hail Dark Lord Davi! How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying is outrageously fun, filled with campy humor, action and unexpected warm-heartedness. I grinned from the first page to the last.”—Fonda Lee, author of Jade City
"Wickedly sharp, funny, and raunchy. Wexler delights in punching holes in the beloved cliches of fantasy, and I adore this. If you ever thought: if I was the villain, I'd actually be smart about things, then this is the book for you."—Jenn Lyons, author of The Ruin of Kings

love the melting pot of fantasy themes and winks and nods to geek references. Great story easy to follow. Felt like I was on the journey with them

Witty, zany, relatable but not for everyone
This book is driven by its main character. You'll either love or hate Davi, with very little room in between. She is relentlessly positive, but also a bit insane. She's a modern girl in a fantasy world - and one who's very sexual, very bi, very irreverent, and very out of control. She's witty and self-aware, but also likes to throw in references that the people around her don't get.
The book has a rather sharp opening; the main character wakes up for the several-hundredth time, summoned to save the kingdom. Only this time she decides she's tired of losing and being tortured to death and decides to have some fun... beginning by brutally murdering the kindly old wizard who first meets her. Okay. It makes sense because Davi is stuck in a time loop, so she knows that nothing she does has consequences - it's all going to start over again. So why not be evil this time around?
The book has moments where it deepens, dealing with some of the trauma Davi has gone through. It also has some pretty clear discussions of suicide and rape that might not be for everyone. In fact, large parts of the book aren't for everyone. You might just find this book one of the best written this year - or you might find it the kind you can't keep reading.

wild and funny
How to Become A Dark Lord avoids the tropes of time loop books, keeping things fresh throughout as the heroin seeks new ways to experience novelty after 1000+ years of living and dying. Davi, the main character, has an incredibly firm grasp on who she is and becomes her own target audience as she unapologetically makes jokes no one but her will understand, allowing the book to dive deep into hilarious action.

Funny and entertaining all the way through!
This book knows what it is and does its job well. Whether it's the offhand pop culture references from an isekai'd Dark Lord in waiting having lost her patience at trying to save the world, characters with depth and emotion, or a smart heroine with hundreds of lives of experience, there are a lot of awesome reasons to love this book. Since it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, I'm looking forward to the sequel!
Beware of content that may trigger certain audiences including death, gore, reference to off-page rape, torture, body horror, and suicide.

Bisexual women ARE NOT sexual deviants
the story idea is great. The narrator does a really good job. It's silly and fun. But what's not fun is the obvious sexualization of a bi woman. could we have ONE female protag whose a great character without being overly sexual? could we remove the stigma of bi people being attracted to anything that walks? blatant misogyny in books is getting very boring. I had such high hopes, and they got stomped on so early on. It felt so disappointing to add this to the DNF list.
