For anyone who can't let go
I've always found myself overattached to relationships that weren't making me happy, and after yet another devastating breakup wanted to understand why. Although the basic premise of this book is "it's because of your childhood", the author breaks it down with many practical examples that illustrate the various ways our addiction to attachment can manifest. He covers the "why" as well as the "what do I do now?" Listening to this book was a series of lightbulb moments for me. I recommend this book to anyone who wonders why it's so hard for them to let people go.

Psychological redemption
Excellent book that unravels the stupidity of additive thoughts that result in self j flicked misery and psychological trauma. For me personally, once something is dissected and laid bare, the resulting clarity and awakening from the illusion of the mistaken beliefs is incredibly redeeming. That clarity dispels the pain and suffering almost completely like a mist that vaporizes in sunlight. It’s because all pain and suffering is caused by beliefs we hold to be true. “We should’ve stayed together”, “I should’ve been better or they should’ve been better” or “if this hadn’t happened then we would be happily together” etc - these thoughts and ideas cause ya immense suffering because we believe them to be true. Once you are shown that hey, it’s all Effie bollocks - and you are convinced that it is indeed all bollocks - how can it cause you grief? If any of this resonates for you then get the book and use bookmarks because there are sections you will want to hear many many times.

Finally!
This book is exactly what I needed to hear. Halpern dives deep into why we get stuck in unhealthy relationships, and honestly, it hit home harder than I expected.
One concept that stood out was “love hunger.” Halpern describes it as this deep, unmet need for love and validation that can often trace back to childhood. It’s that feeling of craving someone’s approval or affection so badly that you’re willing to tolerate things you shouldn’t—things like neglect, disrespect, or even emotional harm.
This book is real. Breaking free from an unhealthy relationship isn’t easy, and Halpern doesn’t pretend it is. He lays out why it’s so hard to leave and why we often stay longer than we should. He provides hope to break the cycle of addictive relationships.
If you’re reeling and feel you just can’t leave or live without a person, I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s about understanding why you feel the way you do and giving yourself the tools to move forward.

Change your relationship to relationships
This has been one of the best books on attachment theory and relationships, that I have ever read. If you read this book actively, as I have done (keeping a journal and doing the exercises), it has the power to transform your future love relationships. The way the author uses real dialogue from real people (his clients) allowed me to relate to the material. I highly recommend the audible version. This book needs to be fully experienced!
