À propos de cet audio
The godmother of Silicon Valley, legendary teacher, and mother of a super family shares her tried-and-tested methods for raising happy, healthy, successful children using trust, respect, independence, collaboration, and kindness: TRICK.
Esther Wojcicki - "Woj" to her many friends and admirers - is famous for three things: teaching a high school class that has changed the lives of thousands of kids, inspiring Silicon Valley legends like Steve Jobs, and raising three daughters who have each become famously successful. What do these three accomplishments have in common? They're the result of TRICK, Woj's secret to raising successful people: trust, respect, independence, collaboration, and kindness. Simple lessons, but the results are radical.
Wojcicki's methods are the opposite of helicopter parenting. As we face an epidemic of parental anxiety, Woj is here to say: relax. Talk to infants as if they are adults. Allow teenagers to pick projects that relate to the real world and their own passions, and let them figure out how to complete them. Above all, let your child lead.
How to Raise Successful People offers essential lessons for raising, educating, and managing people to their highest potential. Change your parenting, change the world.

Many of us know we're putting too much pressure on our kids - and on ourselves - but how do we get off this crazy train? We want our children to succeed, to be their best, and to do their best, but what if they are not on board? A few years ago, Ned Johnson and Bill Stixrud started noticing the same problem from different angles: even high-performing kids were coming to them acutely stressed and lacking any real motivation. Many complained that they had no real control over their lives.

Over her decades as a clinical psychologist, Dr. Mona Delahooke has routinely counseled distraught parents who struggle to manage their children’s challenging, sometimes oppositional behaviors. These families are understandably focused on correcting or improving a child’s lack of compliance, emotional outbursts, tantrums, and other “out of control” behavior. But, as she has shared with these families, a perspective shift is needed. Behavior, no matter how challenging, is not the problem but a symptom; a clue about what is happening in a child’s unique physiologic makeup.

When facing contentious issues such as screen time, food choices, and bedtime, children often act out or shut down, responding with reactivity instead of receptivity. This is what New York Times best-selling authors Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson call a No Brain response. But our kids can be taught to approach life with openness and curiosity. When kids work from a Yes Brain, they’re more willing to take chances and explore. They’re more curious and imaginative. They’re better at relationships and handling adversity.

Best parenting book out there!
A true joy to read, easy to follow and very memorable. Her foundations that this is based off of is truly what is missing in our younger generations but completely recoverable. Recommended for every parent!

Incredible book
I loved everything about this book, it really changed the way I think and how I look at problem-solution. I loved the trick methodology and it will change so many things that I do with my kids and how I deal with them and their issues. I will probably repeat the book again just to make sure I got the most out of it. Thank you so much for an amazing book. While listening I was dreaming to meet the writer and have a collaboration with her as I have so many thoughts about changing the educational system or even opening a private school that uses those open minded methodologies, design thinking , etc.

Inspirational Read for Parents and Anyone Working With Children
This book has so many tidbits and inspirational stories that I can relate to and learn from. It also gives a unique glimpse at education and parenting in Silicon Valley. It is down to earth, entertaining, and has applicable advice that comes from Woj’s years of experience as a teacher and mother. I love her style of writing and story telling!

Terrible
This is not a book about how to raise successful people. It is an autobiography. Although the author has an impressive resume, it is not at all interesting. Painful 10 hours listening to the author massage her ego.

Full of themselves
I disliked this book enough that I have decided to stop listening. Funny enough, I agree with most of what is shared but... there are some hypocritical bits that turned me off, and oh by golly this author is the best person to ever roam the earth and that is repeated so often, that I can’t stand listening anymore.

Nothing extraordinary
The book is more of a biography than tips and tricks. Pretty mediocre Americanized parenting stories. She bashes parenting styles of minorities because they’re not as pushover or neglectful as her own style. Yes, neglectful. She left an 8 year old at a target to teach independance…
As a mom of three myself, majority of the stories she mentions just sound like a regular Tuesday afternoon in the western world and I believe her kids just got lucky they are “successful”. I highly doubt her parenting is to be credited for their success.
Got a judgey vibe from her when it comes to other cultures and it is a huge pet peeve of mine so maybe that swayed me to not enjoy her book much. She mentions a Chinese author who also published a parenting book in a negative light and tried to play victim when the media named her the ‘panda mom’ while the Chinese woman was the ‘tiger mom’. She also blasted a muslim family where the dad wanted the daughter to wear the headscarf. That story could have been left out as it added no value to the book. She goes on to say that people come to America for a better life so they have to adapt etc ignoring the fact that America is supposed to be a free country so if a parent wants their child to practise their religion/culture, she should mind her beeswax unless the parent is harming a child which was not the case in this story. Made me wonder about her motivation for including it in her book.
Overall, I was disappointed because I thought I would learn something from this book but it was a waste of my time and money.
