À propos de cet audio
Book one in the classic conclusion to Frank Herbert's worldwide best-selling Dune Chronicles
Hunters of Dune and the concluding volume, Sandworms of Dune, bring together the great story lines and beloved characters in Frank Herbert's classic Dune universe, ranging from the time of the Butlerian Jihad to the original Dune series and beyond. Based directly on Frank Herbert's final outline, which lay hidden in a safe-deposit box for a decade, these two volumes will finally answer the urgent questions Dune fans have been debating for two decades.
At the end of Chapterhouse: Dune - Frank Herbert's final novel - a ship carrying the ghola of Duncan Idaho, Sheeana (a young woman who can control sandworms), and a crew of various refugees escapes into the uncharted galaxy, fleeing from the monstrous Honored Matres, dark counterparts to the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood. The nearly invincible Honored Matres have swarmed into the known universe, driven from their home by a terrifying, mysterious Enemy.
As designed by the creative genius of Frank Herbert, the primary story of Hunters and Sandworms is the exotic odyssey of Duncan's no-ship as it is forced to elude the diabolical traps set by the ferocious, unknown Enemy. To strengthen their forces, the fugitives have used genetic technology from Scytale, the last Tleilaxu Master, to revive key figures from Dune's past - including Paul Muad'Dib and his beloved Chani, Lady Jessica, Stilgar, Thufir Hawat, and even Dr. Wellington Yueh. Each of these characters will use their special talents to meet the challenges thrown at them.
Failure is unthinkable - not only is their survival at stake, but they hold the fate of the entire human race in their hands.

Paul, like nearly every great conqueror, has enemies - those who would betray him to steal the awesome power he commands. Paul himself begins to have doubts: Is the jihad getting out of his control? Has he created anarchy? Has he been betrayed by those he loves and trusts the most? And most of all, he wonders: Am I going mad?

Frank Herbert's Dune is one of the grandest epics in the annals of imaginative literature. Now Herbert's son, Brian, working with Kevin J. Anderson and using Frank Herbert's own notes, reveals a pivotal epoch in the history of the Dune universe: the Butlerian Jihad, the war that was fought ten thousand years before the events of Dune - the war in which humans wrested their freedom from "thinking machines."

Leto Atreides, duke of Caladan and father of the Muad’Dib. While all know of his fall and the rise of his son, little is known about the quiet ruler of Caladan and his partner, Jessica. Or how a duke of an inconsequential planet earned an emperor’s favor, the ire of House Harkonnen, and set himself on a collision course with his own death. This is the story. Through patience and loyalty, Leto serves the Golden Lion Throne. Where others scheme, the duke of Caladan acts. But Leto’s powerful enemies are starting to feel that he is rising beyond his station.

A nod to the master
I love the fact that the saga continues though often I find their style jarring. I often would cringe and get frustrated with their constant rehashing of the plot lines. And the build up was very predictable. They did not learn from Frank's brilliance. What he left off screen, so to speak, resonated and blew open the readers imagination in a nuanced fashion. Frankly ( hee hee), I miss the philosophical punch of his writing and the intelligence and respect he showed to his reader. But, they had to be true to their style and I am thankful for the depth and scope of the Dune universe that they flushed out for us.
The audio work us masterful. I thoroughly enjoyed the listening experience.

My first venture into the extended universe.
And it was ok. Totally different feel to the book.

It all ties in togehter.
The machinations continue to unfold as the New Sisterhood squares off against remnant faction of Honoured Matres.
The economics of Melange is ever prevelant with the puppets maneuvering forces into motion
With Duncan, Shiana, Tieg and Co. evade capture by the ever present emeny.
Highly recommend reading the novels about the Butlarian Jihad and the novels of the 3 houses; Atreideis, Corrino, and Harkkanan before this one. It'll only add to the intensity of the wild revalations at the end.
Everything is circular, will humanity learn.

Good book if you aren’t expecting Frank Herbert’s style
Have to go four star over because…well it’s Dune and we seriously needed an ending to the series! Way too much up in the air after Chapterhouse. There are times where you can feel the authors following FH’s outline and notes and places where it does not. Some characters from the prequels seem to be jammed in. All in all, it’s a good conclusion to a great series, especially if you go into it knowing it will be different. Scott Brick performs the read with a great amount of emotion. That is well done; but for me he doesn’t change his voice enough between characters. Though that could be because the OG Dune series performances were some of my absolute favorite!

A Much Needed Conclusion to the Original Saga
Both this book and its follow-up, Sandworms of Dune sorely lack the intelligence and nuance of the original saga written by Frank Herbert. Still, this should not be taken as a dismissal of these works so much as a recognition of the genius of the original books. Both Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune should be seen as a very honest effort to bring a much needed conclusion to the venerable Dune saga. Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson deliver this through an adequate narrative, which, the audiobook producers have in turn rendered convincingly and effectively. Honestly, it takes an intentional effort to nitpick the weak points of these books against the originals, so it's very possible to enjoy them for what they are. In my humble opinion, both expanded universe books are essential to go through for first time readers/listeners of the Dune saga.
