Maturing is Realizing How Toxic YA Books Are
I loved this book when I read it as a younger highschooler, so I thought I'd re-experience it as an adult.
Wow.
It's truly interesting observing how much books like this promote and attempt to normalize toxic and abusive relationships, among a host of other social ills. Every character, including the protagonist, was unlikeable and toxic.
Beyond this, the story is just.... poorly written. the plot is all over the place, and the ending felt incredibly rushed. The scenes with the police were completely unrealistic (and needlessly aggressive for some reason?), the token Fat Sl*tty Friend (TM) was utterly annoying and served no purpose other than to make the main character appear superior, and don't even get me started on the somehow romanticized take on the psycho stalker main "love" interest.
I guess I should thank the author, in the end. Because this has finalized my decision to pursue my Master's in literature JUST so I can write a dissertation on the link between real-life domestic violence among young people and YA novels like this one.
The narrator did her job well, I just feel bad that she has her name associated with this garbage.

An interesting take on some Biblical mythology
I'm not typically much of a YA person so take this with a grain of salt, but it felt like there was a LOT of back and forth with little development. The ending felt very sudden.
I will say that the angelology involved was pretty neat, especially the aspects taken from Jewish tradition. Beyond that though there wasn't much that hooked me. Most of the characters felt hard to like, including the protagonist at times.
The narrator performance overall was fine, but do not ask her to do accents I guess.

Romanticizes toxic relationships
It just a poorly executed way of showing love and the book doesn't feel romantic at all. I didn't feel bad for Nora because she likes her stalker. It's a mess of a take on twilight but just fallen angel version... but i like the narrorator.
