À propos de cet audio

Hush Money tells a story that is all too familiar to Black people across the globe with the case study of Ebony, a young Black woman who was living in poverty, struggling financially, and finding it hard to make ends meet. It describes how she obtained a job with an organization, after years of working dead end jobs, that put her one step closer to living the American dream. But it also describes how that dream turned into a nightmare when she became a victim of systemic racism in her workplace, was stripped of all dignity, confidence and strength, and was left with three choices: suffering in silence to keep her job, resigning to keep her sanity, or waiting to be unjustly fired.

Hush Money also tells a story of triumph that breaks down the strategy Ebony used after years of suffering that not only proved systemic racism in her workplace, but also allowed her to keep her job and receive a six-figure settlement from her employer, among other things, to buy her silence.

A game changer towards an DEI workplace

This book is great tool to: 1) Help recognize systemic racisme in the workplace. 2) Support mental health recovery due to race-based harassment in the work place. 3) Find tools to protect oneself experiencing systemic racisme in the workplace.

Despite the fact it’s terrifying to read what can one human endure in the workplace due to systemic racism. The reader leave with a strong sense of knowledge and confidence, and the seeds of a game plan. It’s useful for all racialized minorities, 2SLGBTQIA+ community, women, people experiencing disabilities, neurodivergent
individuals, etc.

It’s also a great tool for HR. With more books like this we can help make sure DEI is implemented in the workplace and make sure the workforce is used efficiently by protecting and promoting equity in the workplace. Protecting the humans and not the corporations. In fact, protecting the corporations would be also to make sure to retain and used all human ressources available. It cost more to an organization to pay for mental health, or to offer training to multiple individuals who end-up bringing their competencies elsewhere leave due to systemic racism and harassment.

Engraving and inspiring

The story highlighting a black women’s experience in the corporate world enraged and inspired me.

That her race had been such a detriment to her emotional, physical and financial health because of individual racists, and systemic racism is horrible.

The courage shown by Ebony in this story is inspirational, to say the least.

I love and hate the story. For completely different reasons. I love the perseverance for “good” shown by Ebony, and I hate the perseverance for “evil” shown by the many antagonists.

From Victim to Victory

Brilliantly told with an authentic, witty, bold narration by Peg Barcelo!

I love how Ebony’s story is explored. It reminds readers of her Humanity and therefore their own Humanity. It sets the stage to connect to all readers!

I applaud the tremendous courage she has demonstrated in sharing this story and respect her inclusion of the personal battles Ebony faced with herself. A rare and powerful gift that made this book even more relatable!

Get the book. Take a listen! You won’t regret it!
