Being in a relationship without knowing how to share your feelings and receive your partner’s feelings in useful ways is like jumping into a pool without knowing how to swim. You can flail around all you want, but it’s not going to keep you afloat for very long—you need to be able to move in any direction at will. Like swimming, knowing how to share your feelings and respond to your partner's feelings will move your relationship in the direction you want: toward more intimacy, closeness, connection, and trust.

Most of us blunder into conflict without knowing what we are really fighting about and then quickly become overwhelmed by physiological responses we can’t control and emotions we don’t anticipate. The truth is the happiest and most successful couples fight—all the time. Conflict is human, and necessary.

At work, we’re taught to lead the conversation. On social media, we shape our personal narratives. At parties, we talk over one another. So do our politicians. We’re not listening. And no one is listening to us. Despite living in a world where technology allows constant digital communication and opportunities to connect, it seems no one is really listening or even knows how. And it’s making us lonelier, more isolated, and less tolerant than ever before. A listener by trade, New York Times contributor Kate Murphy wanted to know how we got here.

One person talks; the other listens. It's so basic that we take it for granted. Unfortunately, most of us think of ourselves as better listeners than we actually are. Why do we so often fail to connect when speaking with family members, romantic partners, colleagues, or friends? How do emotional reactions get in the way of real communication? This thoughtful, witty, and empathic book has already helped over 100,000 people break through conflicts and transform their personal and professional relationships.

Men who want to live with more power, groundedness, and clarity. Men who want to inspire more trust, lust, and devotion from their partner. But this is confusing territory. The modern world tells you that Masculine energy is toxic. And that we’re all the same. That you need to be a Nice Guy that plays it safe. For most men, it is not at all clear HOW to live more from their Masculine core.

Life changing
Short and simple yet deep and profound! Michael answers so many questions, including the skeptics' responses to his techniques, such as "how do we show empathy with those whom we disagree?" or "how do we validate someone who is in the wrong?"
We've ALL been there before and Michael eloquently and clearly explains effective strategies for improving communication. I've used it. It works.

Literally life changing for me
Wow. I was blown away by this book, especially considering the low cost and low amount of time invested in it (approx 3 hours for 1 listen through). I have been struggling to communicate/ find common ground in close relationships, and it was both enlightening and honestly sad to find out how wrong I had been approaching it. As someone who naturally gravitates towards a logical approach, I thought there was no way I could adopt 'theraputic' principles in conversation without coming across as dishonest or insincere. Simply put: I was wrong, and give my highest recommendations towards this book. Thanks!

Just terrible. You just need to validate the other person
Part ego. Part sexist drivel. Totally boring. All anecdotal information based on dates gone wrong. He tries to pass himself off like a dating guru using validation as his one tool.
Validation. Validation. Validation.
Read the above line few more times and spare yourself from listening to the book.
