À propos de cet audio
A USA TODAY Bestseller
From New York Times bestselling horror writer Stephen Graham Jones comes a classic slasher story with a twist—perfect for fans of Adam Cesare and Grady Hendrix.
1989, Lamesa, Texas. A small west Texas town driven by oil and cotton—and a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business. So it goes for Tolly Driver, a good kid with more potential than application, seventeen, and about to be cursed to kill for revenge. Here Stephen Graham Jones explores the Texas he grew up in, and shared sense of unfairness of being on the outside through the slasher horror Jones loves, but from the perspective of the killer, Tolly, writing his own autobiography. Find yourself rooting for a killer in this summer teen movie of a novel gone full blood-curdling tragic.

Iðunn is in yet another doctor's office. She knows her constant fatigue is a sign that something's not right, but practitioners dismiss her symptoms and blood tests haven't revealed any cause. When she talks to friends and family about it, the refrain is the same—have you tried eating better? exercising more? establishing a nighttime routine? She tries to follow their advice, buying everything from vitamins to sleeping pills to a step-counting watch. Nothing helps. Until one night Iðunn falls asleep with the watch on, and wakes up to find she’s walked over 40,000 steps in the night.

Histoire
Every night, in the college’s ancient cemetery, five people cross paths as they work the late shift: a bartender, a rideshare driver, a hotel receptionist, the steward of the derelict church that looms over them, and the editor-in-chief of the college paper, always in search of a story. One dark October evening in the defunct churchyard, they find a hole that wasn’t there before. A fresh, open grave where no grave should be. But who dug it, and for whom?

Alma Katsu calls My Heart Is a Chainsaw “a homage to slasher films that also manages to defy and transcend genre.” On the surface is a story of murder in small-town America. But beneath is its beating heart: a biting critique of American colonialism, Indigenous displacement, and gentrification, and a heartbreaking portrait of a broken young girl who uses horror movies to cope with the horror of her own life.

Histoire
Max Maurey should be on top of the world. He's a famous horror director. Actors love him. Hollywood needs him. He's making money hand over fist. But it's the 80s, and he's directing cheap slashers for audiences who only crave more blood, not real art. Not real horror. And Max's slimy producer refuses to fund any of his new ideas. But when Max discovers an old camera that filmed a very real Hollywood horror, he knows that he has to use this camera for his next movie. The only problem is that it came with a cryptic warning and sometimes wails.

Brilliant Fresh Approach to the Slasher Genre
I'll admit that part of me expected a tired and predictable slasher story, given how much Stephen Graham Jones has already tapped that particular vein, but this one was a pleasant surprise. The premise is unconventional, and even a bit silly, but the author does a fantastic job of walking that fine line where the stakes are meaningful and the characters are real and relatable, but the story doesn't take itself too too seriously. Any decent slasher has to acknowledge its own inherent over-the-topness and lean into the camp.
Another thing Jones does really well in this one is voice. The story is told from one character's perspective, and he does it with such a unique voice. Narrator Michael Crouch only enhances the story's voiceyness, which makes it an absolute delight to listen to. This is the closest thing to a "page-turner" I've listened to. I usually take at least a week to finish an audiobook, but I breezed through this one in like two days and I loved every minute of it.
Highly recommended for horror fans that don't need their horror to be grimdark or grounded firmly in reality.

narrator added to the atmosphere
The story was quite fun to listen too. It feels like you are sitting with the character discussing life but instead discussing the taking of lives (see what i did there?). The classic slasher movie fan in me was hoping for a different kind of ending but overall the story was a good time! I recommend the audiobook to get the full experience.
