À propos de cet audio
In this deeply scary and intensely unnerving debut novel, Jake and a woman known only as "The Girlfriend" are on a drive to visit his parents at their secluded farm. But when Jake leaves "The Girlfriend" stranded at an abandoned high school, what follows is a twisted unraveling of the darkest unease, an exploration into psychological frailty, and an ending as suspenseful as The Usual Suspects and as haunting as Misery.
Deeply scary and intensely unnerving, Iain Reid's debut novel is a tightening spiral of a story about a woman's uncertainty of her relationship with her boyfriend, Jake. After an uncomfortable and confusing trip to meet Jake's parents at their isolated farmhouse, reality unravels, and events spin out of control when Jake and "The Girlfriend" make an unscheduled stop at an abandoned high school.
Part murder mystery, part psychological thriller, I'm Thinking of Ending Things is about doubt, psychological fragility, and the lengths we'll go to avoid the truth. As twisted as Shutter Island, as suspenseful as Under the Skin, and as atmospheric as The Sisters Brothers, Reid's breakout literary thriller is sure to keep listeners guessing until the last minute.

In Iain Reid’s second haunting, philosophical puzzle of a novel, set in the near future, Junior and Henrietta live a comfortable, solitary life on their farm, far from the city lights, but in close quarters with each other. One day, a stranger from the city arrives with alarming news: Junior has been randomly selected to travel far away from the farm...very far away. The most unusual part? Arrangements have already been made so that when he leaves, Henrietta won't have a chance to miss him, because she won't be left alone - not even for a moment.

Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip - a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfre. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there - which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier.

When Margaret and her husband Hal bought the large Victorian house on Hawthorn Street—for sale at a surprisingly reasonable price—they couldn’t believe they finally had a home of their own. Then they discovered the hauntings. Every September, the walls drip blood. The ghosts of former inhabitants appear, and all of them are terrified of something that lurks in the basement. Most people would flee. Margaret is not most people. Margaret is staying.

Deep in the heart of Appalachia stands a crooked farmhouse miles from any road. The Morrows keep to themselves, and it's served them well so far. When girls go missing off the side of the highway, the cops don't knock on their door. Which is a good thing, seeing what's buried in the Morrows' backyard. But 19-year-old Michael Morrow isn't like the rest of his family. He doesn't take pleasure in the screams that echo through the trees.

Emma Carpenter lives in isolation with her golden retriever Laika, house-sitting an old beachfront home on the rainy Washington coast. Her only human contact is her enigmatic old neighbor, Deek, and (via text) the house’s owner, Jules. One day, she reads a poorly written—but gruesome—horror novel by the author H. G. Kane, and posts a one-star review that drags her into an online argument with none other than the author himself. Soon after, disturbing incidents start to occur at night.

Alma Katsu calls My Heart Is a Chainsaw “a homage to slasher films that also manages to defy and transcend genre.” On the surface is a story of murder in small-town America. But beneath is its beating heart: a biting critique of American colonialism, Indigenous displacement, and gentrification, and a heartbreaking portrait of a broken young girl who uses horror movies to cope with the horror of her own life.

Good audiobook for a lazy story
Unfortunately I felt this story was both predictable and lazy in its telling. Many enjoy the book, but there is a lot of time spent proving the narrator is smart and then a predictable and unsatisfying ending. In one word I would call this book “skippable”.

good creep tone
there seem to be a problem with the audio version of the book around chapter 22. suddenly there was a fragment of what I think is content that should be in the final chapter. it made the story more confusing than it needed to be, and kind of ruined the effect of the other shoe dropping.

Better book to read than to listen to
A little on the flimsy side for my liking, as a psychological thriller. I could not connect the actions of the plot to the character flaws and the later chapters were jumbled in inconsistencies. Likely a better book to read than to listen to.

great book but it's better read than listened to
i watched the movie so i knew what to look for and what to pay attention to but i imagine it'd be a more "well rounded" experience if i had the actual text.
still it was a great listen. the narrator is amazing 10/10.

Minor spoilers ahead , nothing specific though
This is definitely a creepy and unsettling book, but *minor spoilers ahead*
I figured out the plot pretty quickly. And the last two chapters drug and were unnecessarily IMO. I was a little annoyed at the ending because I personally found it predictable, but it was a creepy, short listen which was what I was looking for.

Entertaining and creepily interesting
Many may think the book is hard to follow, but honestly, I feel appreciative of how the story was told. I watched the movie adaptation first, and was drawn to knowing what the book was like. The mundane relationship quirks really played into the twistedness of the end story. The narrators gave a fantastic delivery . It’s a book that should be experienced.

Taut. Knows what it is. Good narration. Brilliant.
Absolutely loved the book - both the story and the performance.
I appreciate a book that knows what it is going for and does it efficiently. And this book is one of those. The author COULD HAVE EASILY OVERREACHED and tried to explore the philosophical threads a lot more. But I am glad he didn’t. He knows what he has set out to do i.e. tell a COMPELLING PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER and he delivers.
The duration of the book is perfect. Its taut and does not meander. It is short enough to finish in a couple of sittings, which is ideal. There are many small details which could have been missed otherwise.
GREAT NARRATION: This is not a book that can be easily translated from pages to audio but the narrator does a Great job.
