Immortal is an enchanting standalone fantasy romance that swept me away with its gorgeous prose and rich, myth-inspired world. Sue Lynn Tan has a gift for creating vivid imagery—you can practically see the celestial landscapes and feel the tension in the air.

A beautifully written story about star-crossed love, identity, and fate, IMMORTAL is a romantic epic about a mortal woman who inherits her crown and enters the land of the gods to uncover secrets and free her people, only to find herself tied to the broody, enigmatic god of war.

Liyen is a fiery woman: She puts herself at the forefront of situations, has a blunt demeanour, yet is fiercely devoted to her people. Zhangwei is secretive, intense, and completely smitten by this mortal woman. The two have great chemistry and their scenes are filled with great banter and natural romance. They both have interesting arcs, and I really enjoyed the interplay they had with other characters, especially when Liyen began uncovering truths she could not have predicted.

The world building and writing are gorgeous, steeped in culture and elegance, and truly create an inventive world inspired by history and mythology. The pacing was pretty good and the story took some unexpected turns, though there were a few moments I wished we could have lingered on, especially at the end.

Still, those are nitpicks, because this is a stunning standalone story for lovers of fantasy and romance. I truly enjoy Sue Lynn Tan's work and can't wait to read more of it!
