Washington, DC was a casualty of the meteor onslaught that decimated the nation's leadership and left the surviving elements of the armed forces to try to restore order as American society fell apart.

Not one of the better Dietz books

Another inexperienced president that unsurprisingly becomes a master survivalist and competent soldier as soon as the need arises. Another sappy female character and dull Harlequin romance just on the horizon. Stick to the military stuff. You're terrible at romance. Terrible narration. Robotic and dull.
