A lady heir in a world of lords…
Aislinn Darrow was never meant to be her father's heir, but that was before her selfish brother condemned himself. Now, she must give up her old life to take his place. She should be presiding in her father's council chamber and serving the people of the Darrowlands—yet time and again, she finds herself straying to the castle smithy to visit the handsome new blacksmith manning the forge.
A lady can never claim a monster…
Hakon has known all his life that his place is in the background. At least at his forge, he can be of use and demonstrate his skills. The life of a halfling is one of halves and pieces, never quite to belong. When he hears of a place that welcomes halflings, he determines to build a new life for himself in the Darrowlands. It is a bittersweet fate to find everything he could ever want there, in a woman he can never have. He knows his green, sooty hands don't deserve to touch her, but Hakon cannot resist tempting Lady Aislinn back to him, nor indulging in the fantasy of claiming her as his own.
But in a world of lords and politics, a lady such as Aislinn could never truly take a halfling like him to mate and wed—especially when her position as a woman lord and usurper leaves her and her people vulnerable. When grasping lords threaten the Darrowlands, prepared to take Aislinn's hand and land through marriage or force, she must choose—the halfling who loves her or the people who need her.
Fans of Grace Draven, Ruby Dixon, and SJM will love this fluffy, steamy monster romance story! Contains mature content. A complete list of content warnings can be found on the author's website.
Book two stands on its own but will best be enjoyed after Halfling.

This one just wasn’t the right fit for me, which is especially disappointing because I absolutely loved Halfling. I gave that book five stars and, for me, it was everything I look for in a monster fantasy romance.
Going into Ironling, I was genuinely excited. It has so many elements that I typically love: dual POV, disability and neurodivergent representation, a fated mate bond, found family, and a slow-burn romance. The writing itself is also very strong, so I never had an issue with the author’s writing style.
Unfortunately, I just never became invested in the story.
The biggest issue was the lack of momentum. Halfway through the book, I never felt like there was anything pulling me forward or giving me a reason to keep reading. The stakes felt very low, the pacing was slow, and I found myself waiting for something significant to happen.
The romance alone wasn’t enough to carry the story for me. I need a fantasy romance to have something beyond the relationship—danger, adventure, political intrigue, or an overarching plot that keeps me turning the pages. This story leaned much more toward a quieter, almost cozy fantasy, and while I know many readers enjoy that style, it simply wasn’t what I was looking for.
I also felt the book was much longer than the story warranted. At 50%, I couldn’t point to enough meaningful plot progression to justify the length, and I realized I was reading more out of hope than genuine excitement.
I can absolutely see this working for readers who enjoy slower-paced, character-driven fantasy romance. Unfortunately, it just didn’t deliver the sense of momentum, tension, or investment that made Halfling such a memorable read for me.
