À propos de cet audio
In February 1944, the French Resistance in the Amiens area was in turmoil. Its strength had been decimated by German aggression and the work of a number of traitors in their midst, and hundreds of its members languished in the city's formidable jail, awaiting an almost certain death at the hands of their captors. When two Allied intelligence officers were incarcerated alongside them it became clear that immediate action was imperative. What followed was a precision air attack on the prison, of hitherto unrivalled daring, carried out by the RAF's elite 2nd Tactical Air Force. These pilots' bravery and skill created a breach in the prison's walls that allowed the Nazi's captives to break free. Whilst many were recaptured, and controversy over the true reasons for the raid's authorisation rages to this day, Operation Jericho remains one of the most audacious and innovative missions ever flown.

Operation Jericho:The Raid On the Amiens Prison.
Robert Lyman's book is very well written. It follows the planning phase of the Mosquito Squadrons & gives great background detail of MI6 & The French resistance for that area. As well as the background of the men flying into danger on this mission. The Gestapo had captured many key resistance personnel along with some downed pilots & their execution was imminent. The Mosquito Squadrons(The RAFs Elite 2nd tactical Air Force) commanded by British veteran pilot Group Captain Charles 'Pick' Pickard was to pinpoint Bomb the walls of the Prison at Amiens, so that the key Resistance people & pilots had a chance to escape. D-Day was just days way so time was of the greatest importance. This book was detailed, organized & comprehensive. I will NOT give away the details, but there was some tragic 'collateral' damage & not all the raiders made it home. Truly one of the best listens I have obtained. Since we are new here in Canada(the site), I am listing a few great listens I have gotten over my 8 yrs. with audible. I saw where several people were looking for a great Submarine warfare from WWII listen, & I highly recommend Gene Fluckey's 'Thunder Below' about his Sub the USS Barb. Exciting action from start to finish! Also if you like action behind enemy lines like I do "American Guerilla" by Mike Guardia is excellent. Also Ross Kemp's 'Raiders' & "Warriors" are really great listens with excellent narration. Hope I helped my fellow Canadians. - Ron L. Ottawa.
