À propos de cet audio
In present day Los Angeles, the alien takeover has begun—but there’s no spaceship and no little green men. Rather, an epic conspiracy is slowly coming to fruition. Thousands of years ago, beings infiltrated our society, bred with humans, then died—leaving an untraceable, inexplicable anomaly in our DNA. Now that genetic code has activated, and chaos has erupted.
But private investigator Tom Lombard has his own chaos to face. His personal life is falling apart, and he just found his latest “missing person” dead in a dumpster. Suddenly he’s being chased by a woman with silver hair and two black-eyed goons with unnatural abilities. And what’s with all these people in masks—and the crazy girl ranting on the internet about the end of the world? Is humanity’s only hope a weird band of eccentrics and one down-on-his-luck, disgraced ex-cop badly in need of a win?
In this wild, souped-up apocalyptic vision of Les Bohem—the acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken—the reckoning begins, culminating in something truly unexpected. And who better to give voice to the wickedly weird world of Junk than transgressive art icon John Waters, whose simultaneously relaxed and dynamic delivery gives this Audible Original a cool, cinematic feel.
This title contains explicit language and depictions of physical and sexual violence that may be upsetting to some listeners. Listener discretion is advised.

The Narrator Spoiled This for Me
After being an Audible customer for over a decade and only ever choosing one other dud from the library, I have learned a sad lesson: listen to the preview recording before buying an item. I endured 18 chapters of lacklustre narration with not a shred of nuance to any of the characters' voices in "Junk", written by Les Bohem before I decided that the mental energy needed to keep all the characters straight in my own head--all the while thinking "Why didn't he give this one a deeper vocal tone? Why won't he lighten his voice for the women? And on and on--was just too much.
When I went back to check on the narrator's identity and credentials, I was surprised to learn that I was listening to John Waters, acclaimed American filmmaker, actor, writer, and visual artist. It boggles my mind that a producer and the Audible editorial team would let a performance this flat have a place in the catalogue.
I can't really comment on the quality of the narrative or the characterisation or the setting or any of the other literary considerations one might discuss in a review because I was so caught up with the poor quality of the narrator.
Do you folks still give refunds for dissatisfied listening choices? This is a case where I would really like a "do over"!
