But will Pelas' ability to bend Fate to his will be enough to oppose the intentions of his brothers, Darshan and Shail? And will Pelas be able to keep Tanis safe from the immortal Warlock Sinarr, who vowed to go to any lengths to make Tanis his concubine?
At the First Lord's sa'reyth...Prince Trell val Lorian has been rescued from the island of Darroyhan and the mor'alir Adept Taliah hal'Jaitar and is recovering at the First Lord's sanctuary. But while Trell is enjoying an overdue reunion with his betrothed, Alyneri, he suspects he cannot long remain off the field. If the game doesn't summon him back, his conscience will, for he owes his life to too many others. Primary among these is the Water Goddess Naiadithine. Trell can't help but wonder what the goddess will require of him in return for Her many graces...and if it will be a price he's willing to pay.
As Bjorn's game intensifies and wars escalate, those serving the Fifth Vestal must mold themselves into more than mere Players. They must become his Kingdom Blades.

A must buy
great series, can't believe it's not more popular on audible. Never consumed 100hrs+ of content this fasdt and I've already listened to the entire series twice. would say this series is a must have for anyone who loves an epic saga

Excellent All The Way Around
I have enjoyed all 4 books in this series and have listened to them all 3 times now gleaning new information each time. Can't wait for the next instalment!!
Nick Poedel's narration is spellbinding. Love the voices he gives to the characters bringing life to each one.

Awesome series
Always looking for a good fantasy series, Melissa has built a wonderful world, it’s sad to think there may only be 2 books left. The narrator is amazing and I have no idea how he nails all the different voices so consistently

Painful
So the main things this had going for it were creativity, length and Nicholas Podehl. Otherwise... her female characters were so pathetic. There is gross overuse of alliteration. And some words were used over and over, but shouldn’t have been used at all. Eg “echoic” (a hundred instances of “echoic of a growl”), dubiety, verily, thrice and sanguineous. I won’t be buying the next one.
