The Queer Coming of Age Story
This novel is a quintessentially queer coming of age story, but not in a way that it's spectacular or fabulous or highly critical/political, but in a much more important and meaningful way: it is a typical and normal coming of age/teenage growth novel for the queer and trans folx of colour who didn't get one - it is realness, joy, sadness, the mundane, promise, and youth, from a queer worlding that is just coming into being. The simplicity of the story is profound, and the characters are loveable and real. It's the kind of book that colours in your soul.

Delightful read
I had the opportunity to listen to the audio version of this delightful debut novel.
Nima Kumara-Clark has grown up in a protective environment where the adults in her life are understanding and supportive: an environment she finds boring. When she attends a drag show at a local fair she is introduced to an exciting new world she longs to be part of, one where she is free to explore her feelings for Winnow, a seductive drag king. This is a lovely story filled with a cast of interesting and complex characters, acceptance of differences, fun and a whole lot of glitter.
