À propos de cet audio
Too many Christians have been taught that Moses and the Old Testament are about law, and that Jesus and the New Testament are about gospel. This separation of the Bible into two, "Old" and "New", has done a great deal to distort its message. Perhaps more importantly, it has set the stage for a deep misunderstanding of the Bible's overall message concerning God's work in the world.
Liberating God: What the Church Doesn't Teach About the Bible is a no-apologies proclamation of the gospel found throughout all of scripture. The message of the Bible is not two separate messages, one old and one new. The Bible preaches one coherent, unbroken gospel throughout its pages. From the story of Moses and the Exodus; from prophets like Jeremiah to kings like David; from tales like Jonah and the Whale to parables told by Jesus; even letters from Apostle Paul, all share the same good news of a liberating God.
Whether from the lips of Moses or Paul, scripture proclaims one gospel message amid the conflicts that plague our society. It is good news in response to the bondage suffered by communities throughout the world. It is gospel that speaks a word of life into our death-dealing struggles with racism, sexuality, poverty and debt, oppression, and other themes that dominate American life.
There is a single woven thread throughout scripture that ties together patriarchs, prophets, disciples, and apostles. Never again will you wonder what the Bible is about, for throughout its pages it proclaims the good news that God is a liberating God.
