À propos de cet audio
The second book in the DI Eva Harris series, this is a gripping, multi-layered thriller that will keep listeners on the edge of their seats.
In an abandoned warehouse, a schoolboy makes a grisly discovery: 96 containers, each filled with exquisitely preserved bodily remains.
Detective Eva Harris knows the line between life and death better than most. Having survived a near fatal encounter with the criminal underworld once before, she is still haunted by the repercussions of her actions - and fearful of the whole truth emerging.
Faced with the crime scene, she is forced to contemplate a difficult question: is this the work of a lone psychopath - or is there a more complicated truth hidden in this killer’s art?
Her search for the killer takes her across Europe, from the upper echelons of society’s glittering elite to the dark and tangled web of the underworld - and finally, to the very limits of humanity.

Read '20/20' First
Reading the first installment in the 'DI Harris' series isn't absolutely indispensable (Carl Goodman does a very good job recapping events from that investigation where necessary), but there is significant crossover/continuation in this book. Additionally, familiarity with the characters improves clarity immensely.
The case in this episode involves a discovery of preserved dismembered corpses and the Europe-wide investigation of abductions at a Biotech corporation (and medical experimentation on the abductees). The dialogue is realistic, the characters are interesting, and the plot is well-researched and well-executed. Goodman has an odd obsession with hedonism (excessive wealth & drugs & orgies), but writes with creditable vocabulary and prose.
Another big selling point: reader Louise Brealey is once again outstanding. The narration in this book is exemplary: once again a little too slow (listen at 1.10X), but with spot-on timbre, tone, cadence, and voice-acting. Audible Originals Inc. did an excellent job casting this project.
I rate this recording worthy of 9 stars out of 10 (points lost for somewhat diminished standalone merit). I am very grateful to Audible for making this Police Procedural series available as part of my subscription.. because it actually rates a Credit. I can definitely recommend 'Lifesign' - but download Book One first.

Quality of playback frustrating
Near the end of the story the playback keeps skipping and missing words. Of course it has to happen at the end. I found this book very difficult to focus on. It was just background noise to my housework.

Graphic
This is not my kind of book. Far too many scenes of gore and lengthy descriptions of torture and suffering. It’s incredibly dark and the plot seemed all over the place . I won’t be reading more of this author.
