À propos de cet audio

An uplifting and inspiring World War II saga for fans of Nancy Revell and Annie Groves.

1942, Manchester.

World War II is in full swing, and Lily Mullins is determined to do her bit for the war effort. Her friends and sweetheart have all joined up, and Lily's sure there must be a role for her that goes further than knitting socks for the troops!

When she decides to volunteer for the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, Lily soon discovers that she has a talent as a wireless operator. Helped along the way by a special gang of girls, she finds strengths she didn't know she had and realises that the safety of the country might just be in her hands....

Meanwhile, Danny is determined to marry Lily, but his letters home become more and more distant. Will a long separation mean the end of their love story?

An uplifting and inspiring novel of women on the home front.

Lovely story

A lovely story with so much potential. I would have loved to have seen more development into her becoming a pilot, a deeper dive into many of the themes and a better flow. The narrator was fantastic and the accents lovely.

I really enjoyed this book

I love historical fiction, especially about the war. This one has a great story line, and the characters are realistic. I couldn’t stop listening!

A wonderful story to share with daughters and granddaughters

Shirley’s story mirrored what little I was able to pull together from my parents’ experiences growing up in Britain during WWII. Grabbing joy, purpose, and meaning in their young formative lives. I was reminded of my mom, too young to serve, who lived with threat of bombing and invasion, and who looked forward to dances. My dad who volunteered at 14 and was on the D-Day beaches at 17. His campaign through Europe and his return home to a very different Britain where/when he met my mom a few years later - at a dance. Shirley’s message to the reader at the end brought me to tears. We owe so much to the women of this period in history.
