À propos de cet audio
Step into Jenny Slate's wild imagination in this "magical" (Mindy Kaling), "delicious" (Amy Sedaris), and "poignant" (John Mulaney) New York Times best seller about love, heartbreak, and being alive - "this book is something new and wonderful" (George Saunders).
You may "know" Jenny Slate from her Netflix special, Stage Fright, as the creator of Marcel the Shell, or as the star of Obvious Child. But you don't really know Jenny Slate until you get bonked on the head by her absolutely singular writing style. To see the world through Jenny's eyes is to see it as though for the first time, shimmering with strangeness and possibility. As she will remind you, we live on an ancient ball that rotates around a bigger ball made up of lights and gasses that are science gasses, not farts (don't be immature). Heartbreak, confusion, and misogyny stalk this blue-green sphere, yes, but it is also a place of wild delight and unconstrained vitality, a place where we can start living as soon as we are born, and we can be born at any time. In her dazzling, impossible-to-categorize debut, Jenny channels the pain and beauty of life in writing so fresh, so new, and so burstingly alive, we catch her vision like a fever and bring it back out into the bright day with us, where everything has changed.

In 2015, Barbara Lipska - a leading expert on the neuroscience of mental illness - was diagnosed with melanoma that had spread to her brain. Within months, her frontal lobe, the seat of cognition, began shutting down. She descended into madness, exhibiting dementia- and schizophrenia-like symptoms that terrified her family and coworkers. But miraculously, the immunotherapy her doctors had prescribed worked quickly. Just eight weeks after her nightmare began, Lipska returned to normal. With one difference: she remembered her brush with madness with exquisite clarity.

Histoire
In this powerful true crime memoir, an award-winning identity theft expert tells the shocking story of the duplicity and betrayal that inspired her career and nearly destroyed her family. Axton Betz-Hamilton grew up in small-town Indiana in the early '90s. When she was 11 years old, her parents both had their identities stolen. Their credit ratings were ruined, and they were constantly fighting over money. This was before the age of the Internet, when identity theft became more commonplace, so authorities and banks were clueless and reluctant to help Axton's parents.

Ce que les critiques en disent
"This book is something new and wonderful - honest, funny, positive, completely original, and inspiring in the very best way: it made me remember I was alive." (George Saunders)
"Jenny's writing is magical and stylish, just like her. Each essay in Little Weirds feels like a vivid, cinematic experience, full of original observations and unexpected laughs." (Mindy Kaling)
"Luminous, emotional, lovely, and a little mysterious, this book is something you will savor like a half-remembered, gorgeous dream. You'll finish it feeling like Jenny Slate is your new best friend." (Susan Orlean)
"A singularly hilarious and horny, but also poignant and tender, collection of writing that beautifully captures Slate's inimitable voice, which is one that, once you've heard it, you want to listen to forever." (Kristen Iversen, Nylon)
"A man on the 2 Express Train read some of Jenny Slate's Little Weirds over my shoulder. 'What kind of book is this?' he asked. 'The best kind,' I replied." (John Mulaney)
"This book is like a stovetop goulash, delicious and varied ingredients, prepared perfectly and excellent with bread...I'm sorry, I lost track of the simile." (Amy Sedaris)
"Jenny's writing is wide open, tuneful, tender. She sees the world (and feels the world) like a bug might, two antennae poking out from her head like sensory wands. Reading Little Weirds made me feel tipsy." (Durga Chew-Bose, author of Too Much and Not the Mood)

Jenny's mind is a treasure trove of curiosities
I picked up this book because I love Jenny Slate's comedy and also the way she speaks - her voice and her cadence - thinking: even if it's terrible, 4 hours of her speaking will be lovely. But it wasn't terrible. In fact, it's a little bit of perfection that I love. It's charming and heartwarming and yes, funny, and sweet and sentimental and ridiculous and astute. It's magical just like her.

I will read and reread over and over forevermore
Every sentence of this book was like a delicious treat of words served up by the most darling of candy peddlers. It was like the deepest etches of my heart were being performed for me in poignant poetry. She's relatable but so whimsical, she might be too good for this earth.

little hopes
I recently started reading again and a part of my reading more is listening to audio books which get me all excited to read more and write.
This beautiful book was listened to front to back on two sunny afternoons and one spring night drinking whiteclaw while online shopping for jewelry. All of the words were woven together in an expedient way that makes my brain happy on account of my ADHD. This is one of those things you read and think “did this person jump around in my brain pulling at my most special feelings and organizing them into tangible words?”
These words are nurturing and loving and full of feelings that are so beautiful and hard to describe. Jenny Slate is and incredibly talented woman, she makes me laugh with her standup and acting and makes me tingle with good feelings when i listen to the same passages over and over and write down everything i can and everything they make me think of and I just can’t think of a better feeling I’ve felt when listening to a book.
I eagerly await her next book as she is to me, above all things I know her for, an honest, imaginative and brilliant Writer.
Anyways I could write ten love letters on both sides of paper about how much this book meant and means to me, and how it stirred up some incredibly sweet and useful thoughts about how I will treat myself and the world around me, with tender jubilant love as frequently as possible.
Sacha

A True Dream
Perfect for when you want to read/listen to something but have a short attention span. This book is the perfect thing for laying in bed at the end of the night, or when you’ve had some ☁️🍃. Something cozy, comforting and friendly about Jenny Slate’s voice. She’s like the gal pal you always wanted. Only took a star off for story because I didn’t know it was a collection of essays/short stories but I ain’t mad about it!
