Great story, okay reading
This is the first volume of the great supernatural series by the talented and inventive YA writer Jonathan Stroud.
The reading overall is competent, and rather good in the straight narrative parts, but the voicing of the different characters is not sufficiently distinct, and I was disappointed that Lucy didn't have a northern accent when she spoke.

Amazing book and voicing

Such a impactful story
So much love between these children in a world where they weren’t given much. Beautiful story, beautifully written, scary! With twists, and turns that you don’t expect funny and witty I loved it!

A Great Series
This book started out a little on the creepy side, but once you adjust to the ghostly alter- world that the author has created the spooks are not as frightening. I would rate for 12 and up and maybe best not listened to on dark and stormy nights. The premise that kids have to fight the ghosts because adults don't have the same advantages that children do is an interesting one. The characters are well developed . The band of tween/ teen friends and colleagues are diverse and I like the strong female members. There is adventure, excitement, a few scares, mystery and humour. We were looking for something to replace Harry Potter once we finished that series, and while nothing quite compares, this was very good in it's own right. Apparently it's being made into a netflix series.

Good audiobook for casual listening
Definitely YA and written at a time where diversity and inclusion weren't a thing. Still, enjoyable world Stroud has built with interesting characters, but lacks the depth that would make a novel great. Good book to listen to while doing chores as the story was easy to follow along and the writing plain and concise.

WONDERFUL BOOK!
I absolutely love the story I listen to it as I drive to work every day, and it is riveting. I love the voices as well, wonderful book!
