À propos de cet audio

This isn't his sister's Wonderland....

Henry never believed his older sister Alice's fantastic tales about the world down the rabbit hole. When he's whisked away to the bizarre land, his best chance for escape is to ally himself with the person called the Mad Hatter. Hatter - an odd but strangely attractive fellow - just wants to avoid execution. If that means delivering "Boy Alice" to the Queen of Hearts at her Red Castle, Hatter will do what he has to do to stay alive. It doesn't matter if Henry and Hatter find each other intolerable. They're stuck with each other.

Along their journey, Henry and Hatter must confront what they've always accepted as truth. As dislike grows into tolerance and something like friendship, the young men see the chance for a closer relationship. But Wonderland is a dangerous place, and first they have to get away with their lives.

A m/m wonderland story

Mad About the Hatter by Dakota Chase is a LGBT YA story about a boy named Henry. Henry's sister Alice told stories about a place called Wonderland but he always mocked her for the lies, until he finds himself trapped in Wonderland. Hatter has been sentenced to beheading by the Red Queen but is given a stay of execution so that he can bring "boy Alice" to the Queen.

I love Alice in Wonderland so I was excited to get this audio book.

As always Joel Froomkin does an amazing job narrating. I particularly loved Hatter and the Red King's voices. He seamlessly jumps from one characters voice to the next with clarity and consistency bringing the story to life and adding to the enjoyment.

While they do explore a lot of Wonderland, there isn’t a lot of action. Mostly, it is just Hatter and Henry walking through various areas making note of the oddities as they go. That being said, the way the author took inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s quirky language was delightful. Such as the land of Drawrof (forwards spelt backward) in which everything had to be backward, including your speech. However, while they did do a lot of walking, I wasn’t ever bored. I also liked that we got to see Hatter in the present day, real world. I know some people disagree but for me this wasn’t a negative. I don’t think wonderland has to only exist in one era and I particularly enjoyed his interpretation of cars.

Where the story lacked, in my opinion, was in the romance. The attraction between Henry and Hatter seemed forced. For a large portion of the book the two explore Wonderland without the slightest hint at attraction of any kind. In fact, they both seem to strongly dislike each other. When they finally do seem to notice each other it’s nothing more than a passing thought before they continue on with their journey and then nothing between the two of them for quite some time. They honestly didn’t seem to have any real connection at all. Don't get me wrong I enjoy romance as much as the next girl but this just felt ... really meh to me. Which is sad because I like the idea of Alice’s brother ending up with the Mad Hatter. I just felt like the execution was just off.
