A good read

Like all his books, à good author, a good story, well written, beleivable characters. A good book to listen to.

Just Okay

This is not O'Brien's best works. The premise is interesting as are the characters, but it is hard to get over the fact that the police were never involved in the investigation. Given that the hero was already defying the church, it makes no sense that he would have kept information related to multiple murders from the authorities.

The narrator has a pleasing voice, but has very odd habit of pronouncing plurals ending es with an EE sound. FacEEs. PlacEEs.

The two different story lines... the crimes committed at the school and Maggie and Jack falling in love while both are grieving.

Of all the books I have read of Kevin O'Brien's the one thing I enjoyed the most was that there was not always a happy ending or things were not always tied up neatly with a bow until this one. The romance and love story and falling in love in less than a month and giving up the priesthood was just a little much to believe. There was no real character development of Maggie.
