More than Excellent
I am a Brian Tracy fan. I have been listening to programs from Brian since 2008. This audio recording of Master your Time Master Your Life is Excellent. The examples he uses are congruent with the stuff that can be disturbing to our productivity. Examples such constantly checking the emails, app on our smart phones, and more.
This is a good quote from the book:
It estimated that the average adult today spends three and a half hours each day checking apps, email and text messages.
Brian adds later, the average adult checks their email 145 times per day...
And, each time you send or receive an e-mail, your body releases a tiny amount of dopamine, a stimulant similar to cocaine. This stimulant gives you a mild sense of pleasure, which causes you unconsciously to want to duplicate this feeling. And since you get this feeling by sending or receiving e-mails, checking SMS messages, making phone calls, or otherwise communicating by smart phone calls or computer, you start doing this all day. Soon, you can’t stop yourself, like an addict.
... And finally, here is a simple formula for work time. Don’t check your e-mail in the morning. Check your email only twice a day, at perhaps 11:00 and 3:00. In between, turn off all sounds bell, and rings that reminds you there are incoming messages.
My best chapter of this audio book is the one on rest and relaxation time. This is another excellent advice from Brian:
Set Rest as Priority. Sometimes, the very best use of your time is to come home and go to bed early at 8:00 or 9:00 PM, and just sleep for nice or ten hours, completely recharging your mental and physical batteries
