An enjoyable listen
**This review contains vague spoilers**
I actually quite liked this one, a solid 3.5. A few of the plot decisions had me questioning what the author was planning to do, but it worked out quite well, I’m surprised to say.
First off, I would call this a light thriller, though the mystery and suspense genres are probably more fitting. I was already bracing myself for disappointment in the first few chapters when I had a feeling I knew who the stalker was and caught the vague reveal as to what the stalker’s connection to Darcy was. It seemed an interesting choice to make it so obvious and I was worried I’d be bored, but since the book was told not only from Darcy’s and Eilidh’s perspectives but the stalker’s as well, it didn’t diminish my intrigue or enjoyment of the story.
All three of the main characters (I’ll consider the stalker a main character as well since they are one of the books POVs) were well-written, with solid backstories and palpable chemistry. The relationship development between Darcy and Eilidh was sweet and not too rushed, even if they did feel an instant connection to each other, which I liked – this isn’t one of those lock eyes and tumble into bed before proceeding to live happily ever after scenarios, thankfully!
The thing that detracted most from this one for me was actually the narration. It wasn’t bad! It was really okay, but there was just something about some of the inflection and pacing that I didn’t care for and I occasionally found myself focused on a bit of the narration that bugged me instead of the story. That said, I’m very particular when it comes to narrators and she really did a perfectly decent job – I would even listen to it again – and some of the things that I didn’t care for could just be a matter of accent/dialect. In all honesty, though, a GREAT narrator instead of an OKAY one would have upped this to a 4.0 or maybe even a 4.5 for me.
Would recommend :)
