The Mediterranean diet won the challenge reaching a score of 4.2 out of 5, thanks to its beneficial effects on health and longevity, which have seen it triumph over other famous diets such as Dah and Flexitarian.

The Mediterranean diet also represents a historical and cultural heritage and is proposed as a symbol of a cuisine whose simplicity, imagination, and flavors are appreciated all over the world.
The typical dishes of the Mediterranean diet, therefore, represent a gastronomic and nutritional excellence.

Furthermore, a single definition of the Mediterranean diet is not easy to give, as in the Mediterranean area coexist countries with different cultural backgrounds, different ethnic and religious roots, different statuses, social and economic, and different agricultural production, which entail different food choices.

The Mediterranean diet is therefore a system of "living standards" or good practices, with the aim of guaranteeing the human being an optimal state of health.

So, more than a true restrictive diet, the Mediterranean diet is a way of eating that's focused plant-based foods, such as whole grains, vegetables, legumes, fruits, nuts, seeds, herbs, and spices, are the foundation of the diet. Olive oil is the main source of added fat.
