After a series of staggering losses, the Republic seems to finally have the villainous Nihil marauders on the run, and it looks like there's light at the end of the tunnel. Very mediocre at best sadly
I have read well over 70 Star Wars books and there are very few I have not enjoyed. And I’m sad to say that this is one of them. And while it may have been intended for a younger audience I can’t imagine teens would enjoy so many unusual character development tangents in a book. I’m not even sure that all the tangents were character development And at the very minimum, the author did not need to develop so many characters to the extent they did. Even in audio, I almost couldn’t finish the book. The battle at the end was what I was waiting for, and thankfully it was not bad at all. The narrator wasn’t too bad, but he was no Mark Thompson. Narration while performing Voice acting has got to be tough but I found it challenging to distinguish the voices from one another.

Out of all the SW books. The worse thus far
First off the audio reading is good. Some voices are close to the same, but completely understand it’s no easy task for the reader of any books.
Now the writing. Couldn’t finish it, made it to Chapter 19(audio chapter 22). Most of the book is spent on character development on way too many characters. By character development I mean their sexual preference or sexual relationships. This is instead of the SW Universe as it should be. Very disappointing as I was looking for more battles or involvement with the Nihil, which hasn’t even happened to this point.

Degrassi with a Star Wars Theme
This one was a struggle to get through. The author focuses on bizarre character drama and completely ignores action or conflict. Jedi who are supposed to be in a major crisis are too busy being horny teenagers. The tasks given to the extremely valuable characters amount to a milk run. There's no tension, no buildup, no looming crisis. Add in bizarre pronouns, about triple the amount of characters one could reasonably follow, and no major plot developments for 90% of the book. This really felt like a teen soap opera with a Star wars theme.
The narration was good but lacking variation compared to series regulars like Marc Thompson.

Don’t buy this book
It’s probably the worst high republic book yet. The performance is mediocre at best. The worst part is the overall story though. It is poorly written and doesn’t move the High Republic story line forward at all. I wish I didn’t buy this book

Meh could be better
It really wasn't that interesting until the very end and even then it wasn't that exciting. Its really geared towards a younger audience

Its fine.
Compared to the main story Novels read by Marc Thompson this really falls short both in performance and story. I struggled to care at any point as you can skip this entire story and it wouldn't take away anything from the main story arc. The plot becomes more interesting by the end, but the journey getting there is a slow and confusing one if you are listening. I've noticed a few comments saying a lot of the characters fail to be distinctive, and I have to agree completely.
To keep it short and sweet: unless you REALY love the side character Reath Silas or the other side characters, skip it and stick to the main story.
