James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

The story of Smith’s tragic downfall has long haunted James Dommek, Jr., the great-grandson of the last of the Iñupiaq story-tellers. Midnight Son is his journey in discovering who Teddy Kyle Smith was, what he did, and what he really saw. Along the way, listeners will experience the soul of the real Alaska as narrator Dommek, Jr. brings this multilayered and sprawling tale to life.

Captivating storytelling and a great performance by John Dommek Jr. I liked the use of sound clips, recordings and music to immerse you in the story. Overall a great portrayal of this story, my only complaint is that I would've appreciated more context and information about Iñukuns and their place in Iñupiaq culture and storytelling.

I deeply appreciate the authenticity of the creator and all of the detailed work he put into this piece. It transports you to a place unknown to many. A gripping true story that is beautifully told. I love the narration by James and have listened more than once. Alaskan True Crime at it's finest.

I really like stories like this and how we as indigenous are connected to the land. And that one day we all return to the land. This would really make a good movie.

This is one of the best audible productions I’ve listened to! James Dommek Jr is an incredible storyteller, he has woven together so many voices to tell this story, creating an a powerful and engaging listening experience. The way he guides the reader/listener to honour people, stories and cultures is exactly what we need in our collective learnings! Amazing!
